These are my first Throwers ever and I am having a blast with them. I got them on sale for about $15 each.

I am new to throwing and I am having good luck with these from about 10 feet out throwing from the tip. I have left the chord on the handles which makes throwing them a little uncertain with the tail. I am not having much success once I move out to 15 or 20 feet. I know it will take time but I have the feeling that time should be used with a heavier knife.

Does a much heavier knife (12 to 15 oz) give you a better control from farther out with the extra rotations??

I can't answer your question, but I have just started throwing knives and I have found that the heavier the knife the slower the rotation so I'm gonna guess and say yes to a heavier knife if you want to throw from a further distance.

Generally, yes, the heavier the knife, the less outside effects that will affect the rotation so you will get more control. However, how much do your knives weigh?

Never the less, you should keep practicing at 10 until you get your throw really steady. Once you know how your hand, wrist and arm is moving, you can do the (nearly) exact same motion from further. A lot of throwers put more of their body into their throw as they move further out, some aim higher, and others will just throw harder.

Edit: Also, got vids?

heavier knifes will sink in and stick better in to your targets rather then just bounce off. It decreases how hard you have to throw them which will probally give you better accuracy if you can concentrate on where your throw rather then just trying to get them to stick. different strokes for different folks though so what ever works better for you is great.

Try putting up a video soon on your throwing!
Well I couldn't help myself, I ordered 4 Sure Balance Throwers (18.3 oz!) and 2 True Flight Throwers (9.7 oz). I think the True Flight Thrower can double as a survival knife if you put a good edge on it.

I will wait to post a Video until I get those and get more practice with the light throwers I have.

HA! Don't blame you. I have the True Flights. They're good, steady knives. Gotta tell me how the sure balance work out.

Good luck!

whoa, put a good edge on the true flight throwers? I just picked up 3 of them and they all can easily shave the hair off my arm without a problem...

BTW: Sure Balance Throwers are 18.3 oz? holy moly that seems heavy. How long are they? how thick?

They are 13 3/8" long 5mm thick (with not much grind if any!) It's gonna hit like a 5lb hammer I would think. I am looking forward to splitting a few 2 x 12s with them.

That's one thing about Cold Steel, You can't always be sure how sharp their lower end knives (Machetes, Thowers, Kudos) will be out of the box. Sometimes they are insane sharp and other times not so much. If the True Flight Thrower comes with a razor edge I will need to dull it for Throwing. The other knives I have got from them have all been VERY sharp.

I remember reading in an old Knife Throwing book that it is best to have a knife 1 oz per inch of length. I then had some small cheap throwers. For my birthday I got a spring steel (I think the brand was) Trueflight I think it was 14 inches and about 14 oz. It was very dull but stuck well and hit hard.
