I've been looking for one of these little guys since shortly after they were discontinued. I wanted it to replace a SOG Flash I as my office EDC. Doesn't seem like many people are turning them loose and the ones I did find for sale were generally $75+.

I had all but given up and decided to get something else when one popped up for sale on another forum at a reasonable price so I snatched it up. Can't wait to get it in my hands. :D

I'll post pics as soon as it arrives.

The Aphid is a fantastic little knife. I like to carry mine clipless - it's so light and small. This is one discontinued BM I wouldn't mind seeing brought back.

Got the knife today. It's such a handy, light, yet sturdy little package. It's a shame Benchmade no longer offers anything in this size range.

Nice find!

It looks very much like the Monochrome. I have the Original Red class version, very similar except its a monolock instead of a liner lock. I believe the blade is slightly larger on the Monochrome? I'll tell you though, for it's size it's tough as nails!

Nice find you have there !

I have the Aphid. It's a nice knife with a great assisted opening action. I stopped carrying it since it's tip down only. I had the knife clip to my pocket and it somehow opened. when I reached in my pocket to get my keys, I was spiked by the blade.

I do wish I was tip up carry. If Benchmade would reintroduce this knife with a deep carry tip up clip and a $50-60 street price, they'd have a big hit.

I'd be very happy if Benchmade re-released the Aphid. Stock would be just fine — I don't care for the Valox scales on my Mini Grips, but they seem perfect on the Aphid.

I really like my Aphid. It's a little small for me which makes it difficult for me to take advantage of the assisted open. I just can't get a grip on the rest of the knife to leverage the stud. Maybe it'll loosen up over time. Regardless, it's a great daily carry for me.

You mentioned you had a hard time finding one, my local gun shop had it on their shelf. There was only one and It was the only red class on the shelf. I want to say it was under $50. I'm half I found it and I'll never sell it.

I came across another one of these this week at a local gun store. Didn't buy it but if anyone is looking let me know.

Blade and Flame, I have an aphid and have thought about carrying it clipless, but i was concerned that I may not have anything to grip for leverage to open it one handed. Have you had any trouble with this? Also, did you use the benchmade repair kit or just find a star wrench small enough. That's the other reason I haven't taken my clip off. I can't find a bit small enough.

I don't find not having the clip affects opening. What I do with that Aphid is slide my thumbnail under the flared bit of the thumb stud and push up -- the assist does the rest, very easy. It doesn't take much leverage this way at all.

As far as the clip screws, I have a couple of torx sets that I use. Husky makes a very inexpensive set that can be found at Home Depot for about $6 or so.

Hope this helps.
