Just Bought A Case Scout Knife

I've been looking at getting a Case Scout knife for a while now but just haven't pulled the trigger. I missed a really pretty red bone handled Scout the other day and then ran across one in stag. I paid $61 delivered (although I haven't received it yet) and feel I got a pretty good deal. The stag is a little different than the one in the picture, though. These darn Case knives are like crack.

Nice score! Sounds like a good price too.

The one in the picture looks like a Junior Scout. I have one of those in Orange G10. Nice knife.

I bought one of the amber bone Scout Juniors a while back. It's my favorite little EDC knife; works great for everything I needed a little pocketknife for. Perfect pocket sizing and blade length, light and slim, what more could you ask for?

Looks like a Jr. Scout to me. Just be sure the size you are getting is the size you are expecting.

Do they offer a full size Scout? I've been thinking about getting one of the scout jr models, but would gladly go with a full size model.

I am not aware of full size scouts in current productions. There are several models that fit the bill or come awfully close though. The last one I remember hearing about was offered in a catalog of a member here but I don't remember ever seeing it.

As a Case collector, I've always wanted one of the junior scouts. I've never picked one up, because they seem to be priced out of proportion with other Case knives. They're generally much more expensive, I guess it's because they have four blades. I would say $61 shipped for a stag junior scout is a very, very good deal.

edit: What's up with the scales on the knife in the OP? It looks like a woodchuck has been chewin' on that thing.

Yes, the one I bought is Scout Jr.

And, the scales on the one in that picture sure do look chewed on. The one I'm getting doesn't look that way.

I might be getting one on Friday, depends if my hagglefu is any good. I have an old Primble and a Remington from the 80's, and both are great knives. Very useful pattern, but not as slim as I would like. Like your basic SAK for instance.

Boker currently has some Scout-style knives (full size, they call it the 'Boker Camp Knife'), in varying handle choices. They have produced one in stag (pic below). I have one; their stainless steel sharpens up very much like the Victorinox knives (kinda soft, but takes a very fine edge). A.G. Russell had a 'Premium Scout' knife in bone, stag and micarta ('Rucarta') handles. Those aren't in his line anymore, though they can still occasionally be found on the auction site. His version also featured a 154CM main blade (very nice).

Yeah, totally agree. My favorite pattern for edc. Size is ideal for me. Have a couple, they were not so expensive when current a few years ago.

BeTheToad, I think you will be pleased with the Jr Scout unless you were expecting a "full sized" scout knife. Congrats!

The Boker Scout is great, too, but a bit large for every day "urban" use.

I love Scout pattern knives, the Jr Scout is best all around for me partly due to size. Funny - the old cub scout knives (camilus, imperial) are very close to the same closed size. Only three blades, but can sometimes be found at quite reasonable cost. Carbon steel. Check one out if you see one. Make sure bail is intact.

Thanks. I was actually wanting the Scout Jr., so, it's all good.
