Hello friends, it's been a while since' I've bought a production knife but I had a the itch for some instance gratification! And so after thinking about it I thought what would be a practical knife for me since I go running everyday. In addition I go mountain biking pretty often, what would have a reasonable blade length, short handle, and practical applications for carry. I chose the Cold Steel safe keeper III, it's not much of edc blade but It's a knife I can carry all the time! Whether I rig it with paracord for belt carry, shoulder carry or on my camel pack, or just in the pocket! It's less that total 5 inches I think so it'll be a handy knife if situation dictates! I'll let you guys know how it performs and it's weird not spending couple of benjamins on a knife!

I can't think if that's one of the double-edge versions, or not. If it is and has about a 3.5 inch blade with a light blasted finish, I used to have one. I think you'll find it comfortable to carry. One of the many great things about push-knives is that the handle sits horizontal, so you wont be getting poked by it as much as you would a straight knife with similar blade length.
I just got an older CS push knife, myself. Either the "Terminator" or Defender-1, late 80s to mid 90s. I like it alot. You can drop it in a pocket, clip it to a belt, or wear it just about anywhere IWB while barely feeling it's there.
People dismiss push-knives as weapons, which they are, but you can still get some utility outta them too, and they're tough to beat for comfort/size ratio for carry.

Just realized yours is the single edge version. It's probably the better choice for legality, and utility, and carriability.

It's the single blade version I got it specifically for that reason. And it's 2.5" blade overall 5", it'll be perfect when I strap it to my back pack strap. Biggest factor is if I were to take a spill hiking or mainly mountain biking the handle will not jam into my face or my body. So this was a well thoughtout knife that is very practical and for $25 heck that is a fraction for what I pay for my custom leather sheaths.

Yeah buddy !!! I got one as well. I have had mine for many a years now. I think it is the ONLY knife i have not had to sharpen---ever. The edge was polished when i bought it new. I LOVE it. Sure gives me peace of mind. I have NO-DOUBT that it would slice through clothing if i had to use it for defense. Very well thought out. And a good alternative for those in states that prohibit "daggers" or "double-edged" knives.

I think they stopped making it for a while & then re-introduced it.

I'm still kicking myself for selling my Cold Steel Safe Keeper I with the 5" blade. What a beast that thing was. For practicallity, the SFIII wins out though. I also want to try the Safe Maker knives, with the hollow relief chisel grinds.

As far as I know the older ones with leather had pretty nice, standard metal clips with plenty of tension. The version after that use their kydex and had their standard plastic clips which they used on other sheaths such as the Kobun. I prefer the metal clip, but I never had a problem with the second generation plastic one. They are removable, so if you want to make sure it stays in place hit it with some super glue lightly. I'm not sure what they use now with the latest versions, but I'd assume it's similar the the gen-2 sheaths.
Yeah, I believe if it came down to defensive use, there's not much a normal person will be wearing that will stop a push knife.

the safekeeper 3 never really appealed to me personnaly. I like my safekeeper 2 and I absolutly love my safekeeper 1.

If you like #3, you'll shit yourself if you ever get ahold of a #1!

As much as I hate to refer to this show, "Deadliest Warrior" did a demo of a Katar (large push dagger with a 10-12 inch blade) on a mail covered pig carcass. The Katar went through that chain mail shirt like it was cotton.

Here it is:
