Anybody see these at Sears or OSH? I've been eyeing this little guy for awhile, finally just bought it for $29.99 at OSH. Made by Kershaw? Came out of the package really sharp!

Made in Japan
AUS6A

Yes, I believe this is made by Kershaw for Craftsman... I'm sure a few people here can confirm that for you. Nice knife I think!

Neat blade shape, can't say I like the handles much, I'll take some spydie FRN over that anyday.

I like most of the stuff craftsman makes. I finally got to use my "lifetime warranty" the other day. I cracked a 14mm 8 point removing an exhaust manifold. Wasn't craftsmans fault it was mine for not having the right tool. I was using a half in mac gun with a reducer. They didn't give me any crap about it. I also had a 1/4 inch air ratchet that I broke the tip off of it. Again, this was my fault, I applied way too much torque trying to remove an alternator. When I bought it I was going to buy a warranty on it, then I looked at the box and the warranty, and they had the SAME TERMS. I was paying for nothing, so I got a refund on the warranty. They took it back and gave me a full refund. Everyone I work with calls it crapsman. It's not going to hold up against stuff that costs 3 times as much, but it does the job.

This is one of my favorite knives. I really like the blade. My sharpmaker put a real nice edge on it.

I like the nice wide blade, and high hollow grind. It would make a great small kitchen knife. Is the liner-lock any good? How is lock-up when open? Any blade play?

Thanks,
DD

good solid lock up, makes a definite click when it locks in,...and zero blade play. Real tight.

What I don't like about mine is the red rubber inlays get very dirty and look like crap. Otherwise it's a good little knife.

Also, you might want to go ahead and Loctite the clip screws. Mine got loose very quickly.

That is our Kershaw Chubby. It has been around for a few years, and is not a cataloged item.

That is a Ken Onion design also. I have that little knife too. I had to have it just because of the neat little pocket clip. Its a bit small for my hands but I get it out now and then to check it out.

I notice it says in the add for that knife on the Sears site that it is listed as AUS8 blade steel. Mine has AUS6 stamped on the blade like the one pictured. Did Kershaw change the steel Thomas?

I have had mine now for a year and it had been my carry knife for work only recently retired by the buck 889. It served me wekk and really took a lot of abuse. My DMT system can give it a hair flinging sharpness, and it does hold an edge well enough.

Funny thing is if you know a mechanic have him check out the snap on equivelent of it. It is sold for 80$(by the way the website has it for 45$) I really dont understand it because the Craftsman one is just 23$. Maybe the Kershaw guy can explain. I know Snap on is expensive but isnt it just gouging.

STR, the Chubby has always been 6A, must be a typo on the Sears site.

yans, sorry I really don't know why there would be such a difference in pricing between the two, sorry.

Yep. Just checking since I would have bought one in AUS8a if they did upgrade it.

Here is the add in both the catalog and their web site for your reference.
They should probably correct that error.
