This is my first post so if I'm asking questions that have already been answered, I apologize and I will do more diligent searching before starting a new thread next time. Secondly, I just bought a Kershaw Cyclone and I love it. I noticed that there a few threads on the forum where people have reported problems with some 2006 Cyclones. I believe I have one of these since there is a Sep 06 printed on the blade of my knife. The speedsafe works fine for me when I use the "flipper" but sometimes the knife does not open all the way and lock when I use the thumb stud. Is that normal? If not, what should I do? Also, what kind of lubrication should I use on this knife? I have used BreakFree CLP on my benchmade knives in the past. Will CLP do any damage to the satin finish on my Cyclone? Man, is that enough questions? :)

Welcome wagdog, you've come to the right place for the best in Kershaw facts and fun!

Honestly, I don't know if it has something to do about my "no opposable thumbs" situation or not, but I have 7 Cyclones...Mini's dressed in Ti/ZDP, big 'uns, standard 'uns, bead blasted and coated 'uns. ALL of them have performed flawlessly! With the flipper, that is...I still can't get them to open with the thumb studs. Perhaps it's because some one stole my thumbs a while back (this is for an entirely different thread)! But I haven't been able to get any of mine to work as fast with the studs as with the flipper. So I remedied the situation...I gave up! The flipper is your friend...trust in the flipper and you will be fine.

They will break themselves in over time. The more you flip, the quicker and smoother it will open. Give it some time.

Thanks for the replies. I've decided that I'm not talented enough to use the thumb studs. :) The flipper works every time. As far as lubricating the cyclone, what would yall recommend? I'm really just asking for future reference as the cyclone has to have the smoothest operation I've ever felt (much more so than my benchmade!).

IMHO ( and your mileage may definitly vary) - loose the thumbstuds ( at least on the mini's) - they get in the way when you clip the knife to your pocket. Just go to your local auto mechanic and use his arbor press ( DO NOT _REPEAT NOT - pound the thing out) - these studs are pressfitted and will pop right out . As for the hole - best mullarchy story counts -I tell people it's going to be a Spyderco when it grows up.

Tri-flo, eh? Cool. What are all the places on a cyclone that I could put a drop or two of that stuff?

Welcome to Kershawville wagdog! Lots of cool folks here.

When I get time, I'm going to remove the thumb stud from my Cyclone, shorten it, then have it checkered. I think that it'll be easier on the "Snag" issue, and will look better too. Call me finicky, but I just can't live with a non-functional hole in the blade.

The snagging issue regarding the Cyclones was just recently discussed. Rather than press it out, I opted for a little light work with a Dremel. No snagging anymore. Then on another Cyclone I discovered that a rough grit cardboard fingernail file provided just enough to smooth off the edges of the tier cuts. The studs are still in place, but when you run your finger over them, they feel smooth. No snagging at all.

Just a thought....
