Yup its mine!!! I am really stoked about this, as I have been wanting one for a couple years now... for those that dont know, Fredrik is a high end custom maker based in Norway. He makes incredibly tough high end knives for extreme use using a MOD A8 steel. He has a PhD in metallurgy, so I trust that his blades are as good as they can be (and they better be for the price ;) )

here is a pic from the site I bought it from :

A little on the steel from Fredriks website:

A8-mod is a modified version of AISI A8. It’s a conventional cold work tool steel, with a medium carbon content and alloyed with chromium, molybdenum and vanadium. It exceeds most knife steels in toughness. Toughness is a property often overlooked in knife steels, often on behalf of corrosion and wear resistance. The thing is that a sharp edge with a decent edge angle (<35° total angle) needs toughness to avoid breakage of the edge/chipping, especially when working with hard materials like wood. Because of this, edge retention of this steel will be better than higher alloyed steels and even powder steels for many purposes.
Many combat and survival knives are made today in brittle steels like S30V, D2, ATS-34 and 440C. These have very little safety margin and will break without warning when overloaded. A8-mod has, even on a hardness of over 60 HRC, ductility and will bend before fracture. (This doesn’t mean that it is soft.)
All knives can be broken, knives in A8-mod will just give you a much harder time doing so.

Damn, I cant wait for this knife to get here!!

Cheers!

Nice straightforward design, look forward to a good review when you get it!!

Agreed! When I saw "Survival" in the thread title I was expecting the worst.

But that is a great looking knife, and it looks like it was designed to function....not to lure in people "hot" for "survival."

Corgrats and enjoy....thanks for sharing the pic!

Looks very nice--my kind of knife design. What size is the blade? What material is the handle? How does it feel? How does it handle?

1234,,:)

I live in BC Canada, and they sell for $900 in Canada (less direct from the maker, but after shipping, taxes and duties I ended up saving money) I paid less, because there is a MINUSCULE chip in the G10 right next to one of the titanium tubes.. it is so tiny that it is barely visible. I am getting some G10 powder from the maker to mix with super glue to fill it in... (A little trick I picked up from repairing guitar nuts, mixing some filings with super glue to fill over filed slots, and most guitar nuts these days are micarta)

Full tang, no Jimping (dont like, or need it...sorry Nutn)

Blade is 11cm long, 5mm thick, and 23cm OAL... Handle material is Chocolate G10. I dont have it in hand yet, but will in a few weeks when it arrives... I will be sure to write a review and post some pics...

Cheers!

The Knife arrived today! This thing is just amazing! It feels so good in the hand, and has a great balance and weight to it. I like handle heavy knives and this one is definitely that.

I cant wait to give her a good workout this weekend... I dont think I have ever been as happy with a new knife as I am with this one.. There is something special about it that I cant put my finger on. besides the outstanding quality and supreme fit and finish I mean .. some x factor that makes this a damn fine knife. I cant wait to see how this A8-mod steel fares... Both in useage and in honing...

Oh happy day! Gotta love getting a new knife! I will post some of my own pics tomorrow, and will follow up with a review after some dirt time. I will keep it all in this thread, so if you want to follow it, this will be the place...

Cheers!

Dang! I just heard about his custom maker and I am salivating over his leuku (although his knives are nothing to sneeze at either!)

And modified A8? Remember Tom Johanning's knives and a Nexus blade were also made from the same steel and they virtually survived anything because of their high impact toughness.

The Scandinavian leuku and the Malay-Filipino itak are very similar in function and structure; traditionally simple in construction, thin blades and served as "do all" workers.

But those prices are too sky high for me!
