As if I did not have enough cutting tools. Want to try carrying a quality hatchet with a medium sized knife (maybe BK 16) instead of the usual BK 9 and quality folder while hiking around the camp site. A few days of searching I decided on a heirloom quality GB. Looking forward to trying it out. The only axes I have are cheap (excluding my VTAC Lagana).

Just thought I would share.

Nice, I have a Wetterlings Wild Side and love it.

Nice hatchet, nice knives. That combo is what I am looking to carry. Do you belt carry the Wetterling?

Thanks for posting pics.

I'm sure you'll love it! I have a wetterlings small axe that I belt carry but I much prefer my GB SFA and carry that on a belt with a hammer holder ring thing that you can get from any hardware store.

I have the Scandinavian and really want the Wildlife and the Carpenters.

Let us know how you like it when it arrives.

I have one, and I think it's a very fine tool. I will tell you though, the first one I received, the edge was not centered when you look down it to the bottom of the handle. It's like the bit was somewhat warped a little. I contacted the people I bought it from, and they handpicked me a better one. They also said I wasn't the first person to bring that to their attention. So before you go chopping away, I'd inspect it and make sure it makes you happy. I posted a thread in this sub forum with pictures showing the misalignment. I just hope yours is what it should be - perfect.
Othe than that, I really like it. It's relatively light, but cuts very, very well!

My pleasure--I usually have the axe in my pack and my Busse on my belt... Folders are tucked away all over.

Trigga - I see a SFA in my future. That is actually more the size I started looking for but got sidetracked. Thanks for the tip as I definetly plan on trying this on my belt.

Imaltera - pics will be posted

Lonny - thanks for the heads up. At that price it should be perfect. I'll be sure and check.

Aias - thought it was a busse. I have been ending up in them Busse forum more and more lately. Gonna have to get a paper route.

I own (and use) many of the Gransfors models (not even near all of em, but a lot nonetheless), I even have one of their ancient axes arriving in the next couple days. Of all the gear I've bought, and regretted over the years, my GB's are not among them.

Your pic just cost me another $400. :D The Busse TG is such a work of art. Goes so well with your Wild Side I had To see how it would look next to my GBWH. Ordered a TGLB Tanker Grey with Tan Canvas grips. I'll post some pics in 4-14 weeks.

Congrats, I hope you like it! I've had my Wildlife Hatchet for a few years, and I like it very much. To me it can cut bigger than its apparent size and weight, probably due to its sharpness and edge profile, but I didn't get that sensation until I became familiar enough with it to overcome brute force with blade speed & accuracy. I've only needed to sharpen it once, and that was due to some nicks I put in the edge from staple impacts during some extra-curricular furniture destruction while moving. A few swipes with a DMT, a couple strops, and the edge came back as good as new. Yep, a good piece of kit.
