Hello, this is the first real knife i have ever owned, aside from swiss army knifes. I bought it at Walmart for $46. It's the regular Serrated blade but i perfer the not serrated blade- walmart doesn't carry them. Anyway. this knife is a BEAST i must say. It open very fast just like an automatic. I had the choice of buying some cheapo Asian Import Auto switchblade for same price, but i picked this. It's basically an automatic with modifications to go around the law books. The Speed safe system is very easy. If i was pined down i can wipe it out and deploy in no time for action. So yeah, its very fast, and sharp, although not razor sharp. Anything with a safety on it has to be good! . I plan to carry this everyday. The fast action can scare away people with out any contact.

i recommend this knife.

Congrats on your newest purchase.

I recently picked up a black coated Leek (plain edge). You're absolutely right, it's a great knife. The two things that really make it stand out for me are its slim profile (don't feel it in my pocket at all) and the Speedsafe.

Have fun with it, but be careful. Hope you're not intending to use that knife for SD, especially if you don't have the proper training.

True, if you had a pine tree on you, you could certainly pull out your leek and whittle it away. Might want something larger though. Pine trees can get pretty big.

Congrats on your purchase. You get years of great use and customer service
along with it. But you'll probably catch the buying bug and end up
with at least half a dozen different Leeks. hehe

I'm surprised Thomas hasn't come in here to give you a big kiss........uh,
I mean to thank you. :D

You're right. Those pine trees can be pretty pesky.

I was taking a walk in front of my house earlier today, minding my own business, and before I knew it, a pine tree had me pined down. I had a Rat 3 though and I was able to free my self from the clutches of its evil needles. ;)

thanks for all the replies. slim profile was another reason i bought this beast. my next question is why prefer regular to serrated blade?

my reason is i already have a serrated swiss army, and the leek regular just looks so badass. AND also before i bought it i have read many Kershaw knifes are beginning to be made in China. Was i lucky that i got a made in USA one or are only certain models made in China?

I prefer straight edge. All my Leeks have straight edges. I've never had good luck keeping serrations sharp. Straight edge is easier for me to maintain.

IGS, congrats on the Leek, and welcome to BF's and the Kershaw fam.

See it's a good thing you're here, as the info you read is just not true. All SpeedSafe is made in the USA, and so is 80% of the line (10% Japan, 10% China). We have a big focus on increasing production here in Tualatin.

Gotta post a pic. Definetly a fan of the Kershaw Leek, this is my EDC knife.

Gotta love that black Leek. There's just something about the contrast of that silver edge against the rest of the black blade that just makes it look even sharper.

I was amazed at the tip of my Leek when I got it. In that pic it's still sharp, it was like a needle out of the box. I managed to blunt it a little now with some use, time to re-sharpen!

Congrats on your new Leek. Let us know when you stop flicking it open just for fun..... I've had mine for 8 months and I still love playing with the SpeedSafe.

nice pic. yeah its fun to open and close and open and close. Another thing: i noticed my leek is not very sharp and i just bought t. i haven't cut anything with it, and its about sharp as my 4 year old never-shaprened wenger swiss army knife. It's still sharp., maybe im expecting to much.
whats up with that.

i used this test to determine sharpness. please do it with your leek and tell me result.
Take popsickle stick, one from actually popsickle. and try to cut it/saw it from thing edge down. mine got maybe 1/2 way and it was hard to continue.,

I don't have any popsicles :( When I got mine it was very sharp, I actually cut myself taking those pictures because it slipped out of my hand and jsut barely grazed my finger.

TADA!

Bad luck, I'm clumsy.

To determine sharpness, I usually see if it will shave arm hair and if it will push-cut newsprint and paper.

Cutting a Popsicle stick doesn't really tell you much about how sharp it is.

Congrats on the Leek. Seing how you made the effort to come to BF's and post......looks like your already hooked. Start saving $$$..you're gonna need it. ;) I have over a dozen Leeks among other models, and I'm far from having all I want. It's a very catchy disease...I started passing mine around to co-workers, family and friends a few years back.....now there infected. ;) :D
After I bought my son a Blur for Christmas....he now has 4 different models he has bought with his own money.
