I just got a Queen Stockman in Birdseye Maple for about 54 bucks from CutleryUSA from Amazon.

That do you guys think of this knife? Heres the link

I hope this is the D2 version:(. It seems mad cheap.

BTW, this is my first real traditional slip-joint :).

Hopefully ill get the time for a review. Anything you guys want to see in particular?

Ill do the usual food prep, wood wittling, and feather sticks. No guttin animals though, sorry.

Ill include some size comparisons, say to a Mora 780, Delica, and Fehrman FS?

I suspect my next knife purchase will be a Queen so I would love to hear about the fit and finish and what you think of the blades. Based on what I have heard of this brand, I doubt you will be disappointed.

Great pattern, maker and steel for your first traditional! I would say you are off to great start.

D2 really holds an edge well. I enjoy my Queen Canoe in D2 and it was about 50 or so plus shipping.

Congrats on the new knife. I love all of my Queens. The Birdseye maple is D2, but Queen also makes a limited amount of knives in 1095 carbon. They are also exceptional. Queen really has the heat treatment down for both of those steels. You couldn't have gone wrong either way.

Peters' Heating Treating still does the HT on Queen's steel unless I'm mistaken.

If the tang stamp has "PH-D2" the HT was done by Peters'

And you are correct...they certainly know what they are doing. $50 for a multi-blade D2 knife of good quality with nice looking handles...all day and twice on Sunday. :) I have a Queen amber bone serpentine jack in my pocket right now.

I really like my Canoe in D2, I got hair whittling sharp and it holds an edge well. I am eyeing a stockman myself.

Ive got the feeling these are the kinds of knives that you cant only get one. Now I wanna canoe!

Unfortunately, Iv gotta wait for shipping :(. Man, I wish I had a knife dealer locally. Oh well.

Amazon projects the arrival to be round sept 28-oct1.

I don't know.....maybe your lucky a dealer doesn't live close.:D I am glad there isn't one here close by.

I've been carrying a Queen #48 in BEM lately. Once you get the D2 steel sharp, you'll love your new knife.

I will second that...my main EDC is a Queen #48 but in the aged honey amber bone and D2. Disappears in the pocket but great performance from the extra thick master blade.

That Queen D2 has become one of my favorite cutlery steels.
Whenever I think I'm going to be doing any serious cutting work I've gotten into the habit of grabbing my Queen stockman before I go.

Takes a certain amount of determination to get it sharp when it's new from the factory, but once you do it's golden stuff.

Ive got a beltsander :D

Crappy 1x30 nonetheless, but still a belt sander.

Im gonna buy paper wheels for my grinder too.

Are convex bevels or v bevels better for slippy/smaller folder usage? I find that its easier to car wood and things with a flat grind +v bevel as opposed to flat grind + convex bevel.
