I've succeeded in scaling the mountain of UK bureaucracy and acquired my Firearm Certificate!

To celebrate, I zoomed off to my local gun dealer and bought a pre-loved but excellent Sako Finnfire Varmint in .22LR

I've fitted her with a Leupold Vari-X III 4.5 - 14 x 50mm 'scope, a swivelling 9" x 13" Harris bipod and a SAK sound moderator.

I took her to my local range yesterday and - with some cheap Winchester subsonics - she did this for me at 100 yards:

(Those are 1.25" pasters).

That's despite inexperience with it, a lawyer-friendly trigger, cheap ammo and a wind gusting to 40+mph.

I'm going to be very happy with this rifle!

Sounds like a winner, the Sako is known for reliability and accuracy. Try as many varieties of ammo as you can get your hands on as .22 rinfires tend to be pickier than cats when it comes to what they are fed. You are lucky in one matter....that sound moderator would cost an extra $200.00 for a tax stamp here in the US.

Is that a knife I see in that pic????

I thought y'all weren't allowed to carry such offensive and menacing tools like that! :D

Nice rifle - I grew up shooting the Anschuetz for competition and I've always held a fondness for the .22 bolt action! And I've only heard good stuff about the Sako's...

But as Absintheur said, that "sound moderator" can't even be enjoyed by many on this side of the Pond!!!! :grumpy: :D

Ain't I a stinker?

For the moment we're still allowed to carry our SAKs and Spyderco UK Penknives. :barf:

Currently I don't own a 22 bolt action but with both of these shooting 1/2 groups or better at 50 yards I don't feel I am missing out too much...lol.

I do own a few suppressed firearms, just really silly I had to pay $200.00 for each one. Of course on with the stamp on the suppressor I can use them on several different firearms should I desire to. I do plan getting a 22 suppressor in the near future that I can use on both pistol and rifle.

Nice setups.

I used to own a Ruger 10/22T with a couple of "go faster" bits. With Eley Tenex, I could attain 0.66" groups at 100yds off the bench.

A subsonic doesn't produce enough sound to moderate !! The good subsonic is very accurate like the RWS I use.

The top one I built for me and I have problems with thinking of the red, white, and blue and the word gay in the same sentence...lol. The other I built trying to create the lightest 10/22 I could for my ex-wife.

Round about how much did the suppressor cost you? And what's the dB reduction? (if known.) Blows my mind to see them in a frigging bulk pack like ink pens or something.

It doesn't seem the Euros have near the issues as the US gov has with silencers. My friend bought a Ruger Mark II slip on pistol silencer over the counter in Finland. Of course, it would be wrong for him to possess it here. Funny how what is common in one country is so verboten in another yet both manage along just fine.

Nice rifle MO; hope if feeds your needs for shooting fun.

I used to use a Silencer (full) with subs. My first shot was over the heads of the targeted critters. The resulting thwack was on the opposite side to me so they ran closer. I know, not sporting but a head shot meant less damaged meat.

1. At today's rate, $51.31

2. Very roughly 30db. (Performance figures for UK suppressors are very hard to come by)

It turns .22LR subsonics from BANG! to tick.

I think the feeling is, "Well if you are going to pop somebody, do be gentleman enough not to bother anyone else."

Nice Rig. Never had anything near to comparing with it.
