Just bought a SOG Flash II, wondering about knife store claim

So I just bought a SOG Flash II. So far I am very pleased with it, the small amount of blade play doesn't bother me in just a daily user like this and the action had been performing smoothly with great lockup. I am just curious about a claim that the clerk at the knife store made.

If you have one or have seen one you know the that clip extends beyond the pommel which I understand allows for discreet carry.

Well the man at the store also claimed that the extended clip doubles as a glass breaker. This claim didn't really affect my purchase one way or another, I have other things in my edc that could break glass, I was just curious about his claim. Just looking at it I'm not so sure it wouldn't just bend up towards the pommel and not do much against a car window. Has anyone else heard this claim or maybe (doubtfully) had to use their Flash II for this reason?

I would seriously doubt it. Knowing SOG, the steel on the pocket clip is probably very mild. That, compounded by the fact that it has a blunt clip face, does not equate to an adequate glass breaker feature. You'd be almost more likely to break the glass with the tip of your knife (and likely breaking the blade too).

That's what I figured. I think he was just a confused old man, I doubt he meant to really swindle me or anything. I'm satisfied with the purchase anyways.

It's certainly not what I would pick for a glass breaker. Normally you want something hardened and pointy and the clip is really neither.
The butt of the knife is probably going to be doing as much as the clip.

Hey, but if its all you've got its worth a shot.:D

Hi Rogue -

He was confusing this with some other knife - several others have a glass breaker nib on the end, but not the Flash II.

I have one, and it is a good but little knife - takes a nice edge.

I figured he was just confused about it. Thanks for the help guys, still happy with the purchase so I don't feel too bad that I was told it's a glass breaker haha.

No to the glass breaker. A good knife though. Extremely light weight with a decent size blade. It's my only combo edge knife. I'd prefer straight edge, but got a great deal on a used one in combo. I've decided it's the perfect knife for my pocket while day tripping it on my buddy's boat. Its so light I dont feel it on my swim trunks, easily opens one handed with either hand, and the serations can cut rope pretty well. The Aus8 seems pretty rust resistant too. My only concern is that if I drop it on the boat deck it can fly open near a bare or flip-flopped foot. Hasn't happened yet, knock on wood.
