And i love it! I got a large vic case togo with it. Sweeeeet. Any of you carry one? Mine was on the display at thestore and the scales are a little scratched and the reamer was shut on the key ring but its all right. Is thereamersupposed to be sharp sharp? It punched through a leatherbelt fine when i got done fixing thechip but im a bitanal aboutmy knives.

The reamer on my Swiss Champ still has the factory edge and it has a good edge but it's not razor sharp. You can sharpen it as much as you like. But if it can punch through leather fine, than it sounds like you did good job fixing it. Enjoy it!

I love it. And the funny thing is i have a use for every tool pretty much. Not all daily but... i don't feel ripped off even though the thing was scratched up and dinged, SAKs are my favorite and i keep going back to them. The chisel needed a sharpening because the edge was a little folded but its all good now. I think i got the awl sorted out. I sharpened the angled side and the tube like side i just pushed the edge up with the end of a sharpmaker rod and smoothed it out with sandpaper. Is the gray magnifying glass a newer one? I have an all clear one on mine.

I need to get another Swisschamp . I always found uses for all the implements .

I think awls/reamers are more about good design than sharpness. I'm always surprised how well they work.

When did they start using the clear magnifying glasses? Is that the only difference? No steel changes or implement changes?

The new magnifier came out in 2004 across the whole SAK range. The phillips is very slightly shorter (to make room for the bigger lens on the magnifier) but the good news is that there is now a 'bump' on the tang that engages on the backspring, making it less likely that the screwdriver will fold back on you. The same 'bump' can be found on newer cap-lifters for exactly the same reason.

Other than that I can't think of any differences.

In my experience, the new magnifier is better for reading. The older, better for fine detail.

After having the swisschamp for one day and handing it off to my brother i feel lost! I used to carry a super tinker everywhere with me and loved it, the swisschamp is a super tinker and more so now i feel totally lost. It made me put down my swisstool actually.

You know what I noticed? A lot of people have dinged up awls because of the keyring. Do you think victorinox will ever do anything about this in the future? First thing i'm doing when i get my new ruby one is i'm taking it off!

I bought one when they were just released (about 20 years ago). It has been a daily carry for me since, and it is on its sixth sheath. It has accompanied me all over the world during that time and has always served me well. I have an XXLT, but the lighter quickly failed ( a seemingly common problem). I am going to try an XLT, as it has four knife blades as compared to the two on the champ. I was on a trip in the mountains of AZ, when I broke a blade on another champ I had (it was my fault). It quickly dawned on me that I was down to one blade, thus the interest in the XLT.

Well, they sent me an old one with ruby handles. it has the longer screw driver, glass magnifier w. gray and the other style file...
