So I unexpectedly found myself with some extra money today and nabbed a Carbon fiber tomcat 3.0 on the exchange. For a long time i have been looking at the ti sage and millie but inexplicably found myself buying a tomcat. Ive always wanted one but a carbon fiber tomcat was always out of my price range. Now I'm scared I wont be able to bring myself to use it when I get it.

What are your guy's experiences with the Tomcat 3.0?

Did I make a good choice? I guess the good thing is you never really lose money on high end knives and I can always sell it and buy a ti sage if it becomes a drawer queen.

I own one... happy with my purchase. It's a safe queen, but I'm primarily a collector so that's no issue with me. What drew you to this particular knife?

The CF tomcat has always been somewhat of a dream knife for me, like a sebenza is for alot of people but i never thought i would be able to buy one because I cannot justify spending 240+ on a folder. However I was able to stumble upon this one for $165!

I have owned several arc lock knives and I love them all, they are smooth reliable and make the most satisfying sound when you open them. Also I really tend to like a larger folder for EDC when Im not on campus and the tomcat seemed great except that it had kraton scales which would not perform well if i needed to get it out of my pocket quickly as kraton clings to clothing. But with CF, i knew i wouldnt have a problem carrying it.

I am seriously excited for this thing to come in but i really dont know what to do with it. I am going to be scared to use it. I could sell it and buy 2 nice knives with it. i guess Ill just have to see when it comes in.

You finally got one of your dream knives at apparently a good price. I'd say you did great! :D

I also wanted one of the CFs, but hesitated when I found one at a decent price and the price went away.
Finally "settled" for the kraton version (po me, had to settle for kraton ;)) and quite happy with it. You're right about the kraton grabbing cloth, but not an issue for me, I tend to prefer the quick-release pouch.
If I ever see a CF at a good price, I'll probably get it too.

I understand your reluctance to use it for EDC. It was a limited run. While SOGs are not loved by everyone, there are still enough folks that like SOGs to give it some potential for increasing in value. Always hard to predict the future, but I doubt it will ever command a huge premium, but it should hold its value and be good sale or trade material.

For me, it's too big and heavy for normal edc, plus I'm fortunate enough to have other choices.
If you feel uncertain, why not pick up a Spyderco Tenacious for $35 or less, or, since you say you like larger folders, the new Spydie Resilience for $42 (dang thing is bigger than a millie), both are bargains and beaters you won't hesitate to use.

On the other hand, it's not a $2000 custom. You bought it because you like it and wanted to use it. Go for it!
