Hey guys, I can't open my MPR using the thumb stud... if I use my left hand I can get it open. Any suggestions? It's just too hard to open.

The first thing I would try is to loosen the pivot.

Where did you get this knife from?

Also, are you outside the USA? I know many dealers will tighten the pivots as far as they can when shipping outside the US to better it's chance of getting threw customs.

I got it on ebay from a seller here in the US. If I use a ton of pressure I can get the blade out.

Edit: Loosened the pivot, all it caused was side-to-side blade play and made no difference to opening the blade using the thumb stud right-handed. Would lubing the blade with gun oil help?

It might but I'd return it to the seller at this point. If the blade won't deploy without you needing two hands to pry it open, and you've loosened the pivot and that doesn't help, sounds like there's something wrong with the knife.

I've had tight blades before but never one that required two hands to open it.

It says in the listing that the seller does not accept returns, so I've kinda backed myself into a corner here.

Everything else about the knife is perfectly fine, like new. I don't know enough about these things to fix it myself. I do know that the 755 has an adjustable stop pin... will adjusting this do anything to help with deploying the blade?

Its a not too uncommon problem with the ball detent being too far out. If opening it a few hundred times doesn't fix it I'm sure Benchmade will. I get a sense that it might be a warranty issue though. Sucks I know.

That said if you Contact ebay they may let you return it to a passed off seller. It would be Considered used in my book or open box and screwing them over. Either way it sucks.

If it's not a fake, send it in to BM, they don't seem to worry if your not the original purchaser.

Ive had like 6 of them. As a lefty i think it would be tricky to open it. Does it open hard just grabbing the thumb studs and pulling it open? If so then i would send it to benchmade..,,they will make it right for sure. I doubt it is a counterfeit. Not saying that they dont exist, but ive never seen one. It is a little tricky to get to fly open without the right technique. Your detent shouldnt be that strong to overcome because the Ti lockbar has such a thin profile at the bend point. Just keep working at it, if there is play with the pivot loose then it should almost fall open. I hope this helps. I know it was more of a rant, but i gave it a shot! Good luck

Is there anything suck between the liner and the lock bar

Mine is the same way. Very difficult to open one-handed via thumbstud. I just open it two handed. Otherwise rock solid great knife.

Thanks for all the input. Yes, it does open hard if I grab the thumb studs. I can now somewhat reliably flick the knife open using my left hand and a hard swing of the knife. I'll probably send it to BM, which is annoying because it's the second knife I've sent in for warranty out of three that I own.

That's what I've been doing as well; just seems silly to have to do that with a 190$ knife. What exactly is the issue? Why does this knife seem to require so much force to break the blade free?

I had problems with mine...until I made sure to keep my fingers off the lockbar while opening. I hold it like this and have no problems flicking it.

Unfortunately, I've tried every right hand placement and it makes no difference. Thanks though.

cchu518 means that for the heavy thick blade to stay closed they put a larger detent ball into the lock bar. This means it's harder to open up, but stays closed despite the chunky blade. I think most people prefer heavier detent on heavy blades.
