Hi guys!!

I´m usually at home in the traditional section ;)

But I just bought an ESEE 3 with a custom kydex sheath at a big auction site. I wanted to carry it for EDC tasks as a fixed blade. Not that typical outdoor stuff, for this I have the much more beefier BK10.

What can I expect from the ESEE 3 and their products in general? (I thought for this price and a kydex sheath I couldn´t get wrong...)

Expect awesome quality and performance :) Their reputation is well earned, and that warranty is no joke.

Expect a great heat treating and a tough blade. Also expect to get your money back in performance.

I've got an old D-2 RAT-3 (from the Ontario days) and a newer ESEE-3, both have been great tools and I've got no complaints. ESEE builds a good knife and the 3 is a great size for EDC, I love that it isn't super thick.

I'm sure you'll be happy with yours. I have large hands and the handle is almost too small for me, but a longer handle would make it harder to carry concealed, so I can live with that.

It is a well built knife and suited to activities of a fixed blade of its' size. ESEE has a very good reputation for quality. I had an uncoated version of the 3 and found it a very good knife.

You can expect happiness :)
It was money well spent. I have a 3 and a 4, couldn't be happier with either. The 3 is pretty much a perfect edc fixed blade and it holds an edge for a VERY long time- worth every penny !
The coating holds up to standard stuff very well and in my opinion holds tough longer than I expected when being more or less abused.
The only thing is change would be to get a slightly longer handle but it doesn't bother me enough to go and order one. The factory sheath is quite nice but I'd love to have some top quality Kydex for it.
It carves well for what it is, field dress' deer nicely, and eats cardboard all day. It's just an all around great knife.
Let us all know what you think once you get it.

ESEE has a great reputation for quality and warranty , so you can't go wrong . I think the 3 size should make a great EDC or small bushcraft and survival knife . I actually just bought the Ontario RAT 3 on that same auction site just a few days ago and a waiting on it to arrive .

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS !

When my ESEE - 4 arrived I wasn't expecting such a thick, heavy, 4+" and it wasn't love at first sight. I stripped the coating off, dropped the point more, modded the handle and put a razor sharp, convex grind on it. I wore it out on a construction project and then learned what a serious knife was. It cut through heavy rope and thick woven strap used by heavy equipment to lift large objects with a sound and feel I've never felt or heard, pure quality.

Things to expect. from the ESEE 3...

Some people don't like the handle, but there are aftermarket scales available--some people actually wind up thinking they look better. Check out The Knife Connection

Expect it to be WAY more capable than you expected as well as slice much better than anticipated. They really nailed it with the blade thickness and full flat grind on this one, and the 1095 is done real well--don't take it as a challenge, but you're not going to break it even if you use it for something you'd normally leave your "beefier" Becker too.

Then on top of that ESEE in general makes great stuff. The coating is super tough so won't wear off too soon and if you have virtually any issue with it, you can email them from the website and they'll get ahold of you. Super customer service. Also on the off chance you break the knife--even if you MEANT to--they will replace it. Of course that doesn't mean they won't tell you if you're stupid for breaking it the way you did, they just don't want you to shy away from using the absolute crap out of it.

Thanks for the kind replies :)

I´m actually looking forward getting that nice knife. I´m a knife collector / accumulator for a long time and a long time user here on the forums. But I´ve never owned an ESEE knife before. I have an Izula that was made by RAT and bought it the year they released it. Great knife and followed me almost sometimes - but as long as ESEE exists I´ve never bought a knife of them. It´s good to see that they make indeed nice knives.

Well, I´ve heard of ESEE´s warranty but I doubt I will need it - regular cutting tasks and not splitting concrete blocks with a knife. Every task has its own tools, IMO.

I gonna keep you updated when I´ve carried it for some time and made the first impressions - as well as with the sheath :D

I would expect you will be buying more ESEE in the distant future. You have a great knife.
