Pretty excited I've always wanted to add one to my modest collection .
Decided on the Rangemaster Sheepdog black Bowie hopefully should have it next week .
Early B-day present to myself lol .
This is also my first chisel grind and was wondering when sharpening what angle is the Emerson at as a rule of thumb ? and I'm guessing the other side you just take the burr off or is there a slight angle on that side ?
Anyway thanks in advance and looking forward to getting my hands on it ,looks like a beauty 👍🏻

Awesome! That is a good choice for a first Emerson, actually, any Emerson is a good choice for a first Emerson; I' excited for you! I remember when I got my first one, a Super Commander, I put it on layaway and paid for it for months, and I was blown away when I got it; it is a real beast! I really regret selling that one, so eventually I will get another one.

Regarding the sharpening, I have no idea of the angle, but there are people here who know how to do it right, this sticky might be of help to start with:

congratulations on your first Emerson, and post some pics when you get it!

Thanks much !
I've wanted a Emerson but never made it happen . But fell in love with the design and looks of the Sheepdog .So figured I'd better stop procrastinating .
Looks like it'll feel great in hand and it'll be a user for sure .
I'll Definitely post up some pictures when it arrives .

I'm looking at the Sheepdog at their main site, and it is awesome looking; it is the first flipper design, and rides on ball bearings! That's got to be one of the coolest Emersons ever, I think. I like them all though.
And yeah, the ergonomics are outstanding in my opinion, my CQC 8 just fits like a glove, really.
What model did you get? Plain edge? Black or Satin? Your post awakened the lust for one, :)

Oh no That's means there may be another Emerson in your near future lol but I'm sure that's a good thing .
I went with this one With the plain edged black Bowie blade . To me that Bowie looks darn sexy and mean all in one . It was a hard choice though because I like the clip point also in stone wash . But I don't have many black blades or Bowies for that matter . I also ordered a jumbo pewter Skull that should go good with the blacked out blade . So I'll throw it on a lanyard ,should be nice .
I'm not a big lanyard guy but have a few on a couple of my knives . I especially like them in conjunction with the wave feature .
Here's a picture of the exact one I ordered.

Thanks for posting this; I love it, even the bowie shape even though it is not my favorite shape, it is a classic indeed. I really like the graphics on it, Ernie sure is a humble guy and had no problems putting Lt Col. Grossman's logo on it, an awesome way to honor him: "Needless to say, I was both humbled and honored when Colonel Grossman approached me in regard to making an official knife for him and his company, “Sheepdog Knife and Gun.”

I think I'm getting one, not sure how soon but I will blame it all on you:)

LoL I'm glad I was there for you [emoji14]
Yes there was a lot of meaning ,heart and soul put into this design and it shows [emoji106]🏻

Amen to that, my hunt for one will start tomorrow. Dang, I know I should have gone to sleep an hour ago, but noooo, 'go check the Emerson forum' thanks for your help man. [emoji16]

Congrats OP! Let's see the bad boy when it arrives. I love their bowies--my CQC-13 is my edc. Enjoy it, use the hell out of it... it can take it.

Mmmm, Sheepdog Bowie. One of my faves and quite possibly my fave flipper. Congrats TheFactor!

Congratulations. I don't have a Sheepdog but I have several other Emerson models. The Sheepdog is a V-grind with a single secondary bevel. Sharpen the presentation side and just knock the burr off the back side. There is no set bevel angle on Emersons. In his own words, Mr. Emerson doesn't know or try to keep a certain angle when sharpening: "I frequently get emails and phone calls about using a sharpening tool, fixture, or gadget to sharpen an Emerson knife. The first question that is always asked is this, “What is the angle on the edge of an Emerson Knife?” Well I’m going to be real frank with you. I don’t know. I think it is somewhere between 25 degrees and 35 degrees. All of our knives are sharpened by hand and I don’t pay attention to the exact angle."

Here is a link to Emerson's sharpening tips on their web site: http://emersonknives.com/blog/sharpening-your-emerson/ It may be helpful to you in getting started sharpening their knives.

Hope you enjoy the Emerson. They are unique and very useful tools .

Looks like they received electronic shipping info so not sure if they received it but USPS is like a day behind in updating it always seems . But it was sent 2 day so hopefully by Friday on my birthday would be cool [emoji41]
For sure man I'll share with you guys the unveiling .

Yeah man, hey any day is a good day for an Emerson, how much more special to get one on your birthday!! That would be cool right? To get one each year on the same day, I never thought of that before. I bet you you will never sell that one.

This could be the start of a Emerson tradition . I think your right it's going to be a keeper. It'll not only be my first Emerson but first knife ever getting on my B-Day .
