Hey all.

So, after reading all the raves and reviews about these knives, I was finally able to find an official dealer online that has a good selection and ended up getting a small sebenza 21 w/ original graphics and an inset of hematite. It was apparently photographed as one of the knives for Cris Reeve's catalog. I'll post a link to the pic further down.

I'm really psyched. I have a "thing" about hematite. I have a couple sets of handmade worry beads from Greece made of the mineral, and I just dig it. plus, it has the reverse silver contrast with the graphic.

Here's the page that has the knife. Let me know what you think. I'm on an iPhone, so I can't post the pica directly:

Additionally, tomorrow I'm gonna be putting in an order for a large sebenza 21 with mammoth ivory and Spirograph Damascus.

It's gonna take a long time to finish the order, but for something that should turn out as beautiful as that one will... I suppose I can wait. Do ya think that will be a good combination, the ivory and Spirograph, or do you think another pattern Damascus will be a better choice?

Oh, and I know it isn't a chris reeve knife, but it's part of my craziness last week, but I bought this gorgeous Protech Brend 2 knife with stainless steel body, Damascus blade and mastodon tooth inlays on the handle. It should be here tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm really psyched to finally have the sebenza. I've been using a benchmade barrage 581, the one with the M390 steel, as an EDC, but the sebenza is gonna be replacing it.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Michael & welcome.

I understand about knife crazy, bought 5 new CRK's in the last few weeks.
Can't wait to see your Damascus when it arrives.

Yup. Looks like you definitley jumped head first. Thats a great looking sebbie with the hematite.

I think white ivory would be the way to go with the damascus it would make a nice contrast. Bark ivory with a damascus blade tends to look busy IMO. Great choice and welcome to the madness!

You'll love the Sebenza. I waited a long time before I pulled the trigger and grabbed one. Picked up a small also. Now I have an Umnumzaan coming too for a larger carry.
I wished I had picked one up sooner. Best folder I've ever owned.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm definitely excited for the hematite one to arrive in a couple/few days. Along with the fact that it had the hematite piece in it, I REALLY like the graphic that is on the top scale. It's subtle in that there isn't an overwhelming color gradient to it. But at the same time, it's very beautiful and I really love the geometry of the graphic and how it integrate the hematite.

Plus, though it's a one of a kind and kind of a special piece, I'm gonna use it whenever I need a knife without worrying about "damaging" it.

Once i finally get that one I'm going to order when it's done in about 6-9 months (possibly even a year), it's gonna be a happy day.... Though I think I'm ordering that one more as one of my "collected" knives. Like the custom brend I linked to, or the custom Tahar Raza 300layer Damascus flipper I have, etc.

But man, I gotta stop spending tha money!!! Just the two knives that are in the mail are a G note. He'll, the sebbie I'm ordering is gonna be DAMN close to a grand on it's own.

I think after this I'm gonna have to move over to something less demanding of my wallet, like my other hobby: taking my classic '81 Porsche 911 SC Targa to the race track every month, along with the installation if a completely new suspension in it, more grleared for the track than the stock setup I have now. But amazingly, I think it actually might be more affordable than collecting knives when you have a tendency to want and buy the best.

Heh. Jeez.

Hey all, I just wanted to say that I received the small sebbie in the mail. I have never held one or even seen one of these knives in person, so naturally I was really curious about whether I would be able to really "feel" and tell why these knives have the reputation that they do.

Well, I'm definitely not disappointed. After reading about how many people feel that the small form factor is too small, and given that I have particularly large hands, I was a bit concerned about that, but I have to say that I really like the compact size. It fits perfectly in that "fifth pocket" of my jeans perfectly without me even noticing that it is there. When I hold it in my hand, and open it, I don't find that the handle is too small and causes me to feel like I'm going to lose grip on it while exposing the blade. I do think that the lanyard on it definitely helps with grip as well.

As far as whether I noticed the quality, the answer to that is a resounding YES!! Wow... It is so light and yet feels as solid as a single billet of titanium. The unique graphic is fantastic, and the hematite is a perfect inset and color match for the darker titanium of the back scale, as the front has been altered to look significantly lighter.

The blade is beautiful, and I love the shape and the grind. The edge is razor sharp, and the locking mechanism is great - much more satisfying than a standard framelock as you feel the blade lock hard in to place with that great sounding "snap". The action is like butter ', it is super smooth and zero play. I'm in love. Now to place the order for the big one. Hehe.

Oh, I also received the protech custom brend 2 with the mastodon tooth inlays, and the Damascus steel. It's the first automatic I've ever handled. It's AMAZING how fast it opens. And it's truly a beautiful knife that will be handed down for generations. The only disappointment is that the edge is DULL. I'll have to have it sharpened. I don't know where to go for that, as autos are not exactly legal in CA. Maybe someone on here around san Francisco can give me a hand? It's gonna be a display knife, so it doesn't really NEED to be sharp, but it would be nice.

Sure enjoyed reading your Sebenza comments! I know exactly what you mean when you say it's as if it is "as solid as a single billet of titanium." It's a great feel and I'm hooked too! :D

The only thing that keeps me from ordering a damascus 21 is the Lochsa that I'm in line for. Great choice on that order, and I really like the UG small you have as well. Congrats and welcome!

IMO you'll realy come to love Sebenza over the long run especialy the fact that it will probably never wear out in your life time. I've been using my large 21 hard for a few months and haven't detected that slightest hint of blade play or an off centered blade and this is only the begining.
