Got it yesterday. Im pleased with it so far, good quality. Im confused though as on a website, what appears to be the reamer ( I dont know much about these things ) doesnt have a hole it it. Mine does. Its got a hole, a point and an edge of some sort. But on the site it does say it has a sewing eye, and a wire stripper?
I was happy as Id spent over 9 pounds or something, I got a crosscut kife for half price so about £4.95. It has a multicoloured blade done by electrolysis. I got these knives from my local army surplus and other such things... store.
Thankyah

The one you described is indeed a sewing eye. Think of working canvas or heavy leather. You would string your cordage through the eye and then punch through the material. And yes, it works just fine as an awl or reamer as well. The eye just adds even more versatility.

As for the wire stripper. Look for a small indent at the base of bottle opener/screwdriver. That is your wire stripper.

A variant of some sort? I have two Alox Cadets, but one is a Cadet II due to the fact that it has a small blade instead of the nail file / screwdriver.

I've never seen one without a hole, I have a ton of SAK's and all of the awls/reamers have holes. Maybe it's just a bad image in the photograph you describe? Can you post a link to the image?

You got had...these type of knives I can get 4lbs each on Ebay & other sources Which is 8 USA Bucks! Please be more careful next time!

But on the site it does say it has a sewing eye, and a wire stripper?

The wire stripper is that little notch on the bottle opener. I EDC a Spartan and have never used that feature, so I can't comment on how well it does or doesn't work.

Yeh the spartans becoming my everyday carry. I didnt buy that one from the website. Its spelt pounds by the way not lbs.

The sewing eye was implemented sometime between 1985 and 1992. I can't find all my documentation, but I know that I had a Champion that was purchased in 1985 without the sewing eye and catalogs show the 1992 models with the sewing eye. Although you can find models without the sewing eye on later models due to stock in the manufacturing plants had not been diminished at the time of implementation. But this is a good way to guessimate the date of some Victorinox models.

Also, does your can opener look like the bottom image?

This is your wire scrapper on the older models. That one is off my 1985 Soldier which will also better date your Spartan to the 1985ish era.

I hope this helps.

I have a GAK (OHT but for German Soldiers) .. the reamer has no sewing eye.
However, my Spartan Lite has all the features, plus real Philips and LED light!
