my sis and bro-in-law are moving into a new house and the guy that lived there before was a ferrier of sorts. (welding, blacksmithing and such). They had an auction and I thought I'd let my Blade forums friends know about my deals.

I bought:
a working blower - $1.00
about 500 8" sanding disks - $5.00
a hand operated vacuum pump - $10.00
an anvil - not sure how much, it was a present from my sis and purchased before the auction
enough 8" pipe to make several forges - $2.00
and the grand poompa of the auction (as far as I was concerned) a 110-220v 1725 rpm 1.5 hp motor - $5.00

have some wiring to do and some forge building to do... cant wait. :D

You know your car is going to break down in the next week or so don't ya? :D

Glad to hear a fellow knife nut got some great deals!!!

Nice catches! I paid $100 for a used 1HP 1725RPM motor, so that's definitely a good score!

Well you did score, that's sure nice to hear. Auctions around here suck; people bid stuff to over new retail prices, just for everyday junk. The nice stuff gets ridiculous! I guess we must have some really good auctioneers around here, or people are wealthy, and that's good news for when we retire and leave this place. But for me, for now, I just have to watch the paper for those rare but occasional good deals on tools & materials and such. Auctions are just no fun in Iowa. :( So I'll go on feeling sorry for myself and happy for you, and go walk the dog. Maybe I'll have a beer first. :D

the only thing that I was outbid on was a complete oxy-acetylene setup. There are a bunch of amish people around here and there were quite a few at the auction. They were eyeing the cutting torch and ended up winning it I think, I figured that there wasnt much of a chance of them bidding on the electric motor and blower. by the time I bid on most of my stuff, most of the people had left and stuff was going cheap. I have never done the whole auction thing before, 'cept ebay, so this was kinda fun.

Heckuva score, derkins! Glad to hear of it. Must've been your lucky day.

$23 bucks for all that!?

You scored big time! Gonna have some fun now! Post pics of what ya got! Drive everyone nuts!

It's quite a thrill isn't it? I've scored some nice knives at rediculous prices, but I've never been able to get any equipment at less than retail prices.
