I'd was about a quarter way into my hike today when I came across this little guy lying on the trail ~

He appeared in a bad way so unsure what to do, but knowing he wouldn't come to any good lying where he was, I put him in a hollow section of a tree along with some old mans beard to keep him a little warmer~

I came across quite a few Morels today but all my pics except this one came out blurry !

A pic of the view I reached ~

I watched a couple of Turkey Vultures flying around for a few minutes before they landed in the tree in this pic ~

When I'd arrived back home I was still thinking about that little bat and called my local vets asking if I should have taken it to them. The girl I spoke to said she probably would have so I shot back off out again in the car ready to head back out on the trail.
When I finally reached the bat he seemed even worse than before, I could hardly tell if he was breathing and when I reached my car I thought for sure he was dead.
I took it to the vets anyway and told the girl I'd called earlier about the bat but said I'm pretty sure he'd died. Imagine my suprise when the girl re-appeared from the examination room and told me it was still alive !
She said they would take him to a nearby town where there is a bat specialist who rehabilitates them.

Pit, that's ridiculously awesome! Way to go man! Hope the little guy makes it.

I was going to have to argue with you for a minute, I thought. (I am a big Batman fan) but after seeing this, I have to say I cannot argue with that. Good on you, Pit.

That shot of the SAK looks like it is an invisible blade, sort of. Or see through.

I would keep far far away from a sick bat. Bad news in the worse way. You didn't come in any physical contact with the critter? Sometimes things just don't want to photograph well. Not sure why but in anycase the shroom photo looks good.

Yeah my fingers never got even close to this critters mouth........I'm pretty cute when it comes to handling forest critters !

In my state someone got scratched, not even a bite by a bat and came down with rabies like months later. He died. On the flip bees have killed many more people than sick bats… or healthy bears for that matter. Well if yea handled the critter maybe ask a medical professional if there is any rabies risk. It would only take a second.

Only thing I touched it with were my Breeden knife and a twig !

nice good samaritan move, but have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight

Ok.... if that is really what you want me to call you. I guess I will.

Say that was a very nice thing you did putting that little guy in the tree:thumbup:.

Very cool pics too, Batman :D

Very cool my friend,

...can I call you PITBAT?

Better then BATDOG, or DOGMAN.

Saving bats is a good cause,

...they eat about their weight in insects each day,

...and are the major mammal species helping to keep them in check.

Like snakes, bats are our friends.

Big Mike

I know that in nature its survival of the fitest and all that jazz, but its nice to give a lil helping hand when we can sometimes.

Good on yer Pit.

The bat i found and turned in
I was told it would be rehabilitated and released into the wild
2 weeks later Government of Canada called totell m that itt didnt have rabies
We were excited and asked how long untill it was to be released, they responded with that it had to be euthanized for the rabies testing
That wasnt a happy day here
i hope you have better luck, and nicer people on your end Pit
