I know I'm preaching to the choir and this isn't a new topic but I just opened my search in eBay for Buck filtered to North America and 24 of 50 items on the first page were counterfit. eBay is becoming the cesspool of online sales. It used to be I could filter alot of it out by searching North America but US sellers are proliferating rapidly. I know what I'm looking at but casual buyers don't stand a chance. Just ranting here....

Yep....I filter even more on that site. In my searches I don't let them show me any listings that start with common names the counterfeiter's use like "shot", "survival", "saber", and some to filter out other knives I don't want to see like "Frost" and "Creek".

I'm getting ready to make a new list of the names I want filtered out because I'm starting to see some get through my filter. It's nice when you don't have to look at pages of the junk you don't want to see.

Counterfeits on the largest auction site
on the internet??? ;) Just as shocking when someone tells me that a politician didn't live up to his or hers word.

I will visit Ebay looking for Case peanuts or other makers peanuts and it seems like 90% are peanuts rehandled in corelon. Nothing against corelon but to my knowledge Case isn't offering it on any of its knives. I have had one peanut rehandled but it's fossilized blue walrus ivory. I have gotten into the habit of requesting the most variation on the shield and pile side so it doesn't look like a synthetic material.

I like peanuts also but I buy em by the bag instead of the case, fresher that way. :)

I like eBay cause when I can't sell a knife on here I sell it there lol

Ebay is like walking through a giant flea market. You have to be willing to filter through thosands of pieces to find one that fits. The search engine can actually work against you, since the best deals often turn out to be items that are incorrectly listed and described.

I got on Ebay for the first time in a while recently and was amazed at the number of counterfiet Bucks. There are more counterfiets that there are genuine Bucks. It was very frustrating.

I've just recently started looking on ebay for a particular Buck. What do you look for? I was only looking at U.S. sellars with 100 percent ratings. Will this help? Any quick tips would be apprecitated. The tang stamp model and year matches the scales on what I'm looking at. Is there something else I could be missing?

I no longer visit flea bay. Just not worth it. For knives, I'll stick to this forum or authorized dealers.

That's a tough one to answer. I don't think US sellers with 100% ratings will help. The counterfit sellers may have 100% ratings on low sales numbers then reemerge under a new name when ratings catch up with them. Also I have seen sellers with 100% ratings on thousands of sales with grossly incorrectly /misdescribed knives. Forum rules don't allow links to current auctions so it would be difficult to ask for other opinions on here about a particular auction item plus you don't want to tip the rest of us off to your hot find....:) You could try cutting and pasting a picture from the auction annonymously here and asking for an opinion on the items legitimacy without giving up other information. Just remember that value questions are not allowed here unless you are a Gold level member.

Well, this is certain to be controversial, but I personally doubt if the number of China made Buck knock-offs would be nearly as great if Buck would not have initially authorized the manufacture of some of their knives over there some time ago. If you think it is bad now, just wait until Buck ceases production of their China-made 300 series and I predict you will see a flood of those hit the market. By having some production there initially, it "exposed" the Buck brand into China and let them get their "foot in the door" so to speak. I do not think that Case, for example, authorizes any production in China, and I personally do not see any China made knock offs of Case, although they may certainly be out there. Just my two cents.

Well, I went ahead and bought my 1st Buck off of ebay. I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed and see what I get. Nothing special, just an orange 1990 Bucklite 422. I always wanted a hunter orange bucklite (so I can keep up with it) and other than ebay, they just don't seem to show up in my circles of places where I come across knives in person. Not sure why? I've gotten lucky and found a mint 1969 Buck 110 Hunter for $20 bucks and several other nice pre 1980 110's and 112's but I've only come across 1 older Bucklite in person.
Anyway, I don't plan on buying much more off of that site. The tang and scales "seem" consistant with a 1990 Bucklite so I'll have to see what I get. Hopefully when I get it in my hands, it doesn't say Chinalite on it :)

I buy on ebay, but only used. And then only if the pictures are perfect in focus and color and all areas are shown. I have bought many buck knives (more than 100) and I have yet to have a problem. I am very careful in my bidding also. However, I would strongly caution newbies against doing same. I am very experienced with Buck and can ID most everything by sight with out having to look at the chart in stickies.
I filter for 'buck knife' and 'used' and model# or name.

What is USN for a knife site and what others are out there to purchase quality Bucks (fixed blade) other than here and ebay I can't seem to find any sites for old Bucks.
I have made many purchases from ebay and all the knives were exactly as described. Haven't had any problems so far and knocking on wood.
