Hi,

Don't know why, but I've fallen for the Canoe pattern. I've picked up these just this month. They seem to have multiplied into a small collection.

Been carrying the Case Canoe for a week now. Got to say I really am impressed with the CV blades. My first experience with Case CV and it won't be the last. The two top Butterbeans are both Case Tru-Sharp. The Antiqued jigged Bone I posted before, but the Pocket worn Red Bone I just got today. And the bottom RR is the one that seems to have gotten me started. I really enjoy the swedged blades and long pulls on the Case 'Beans. It gives them a nice visual detail that centers the pull on the blade and makes you want to touch them. Even the RR with the fluted bolsters exudes a certain elegance to the eye.

Anyone else have some nice Canoes to show?

I know why! Canoes are a great pattern, one of my favorites. Lately my typical EDC pair is a bone-stag Gunboat and a second in CV just like yours. I have a Queen in amber bone and D-2 inbound, I'll post pic's after it arrives. Looking forward to trying out my first D-2 blade.

Canoes are about the smallest pattern I would choose, although those beans are a little tempting...

Rob (Thomason) showed it off on the forum about a year or so ago and I sent him a PM, asking that, if he ever decided to part with it, I wanted first dibs on it. He remembered and gave me the chance to pick up another Ray Cover Custom. Ray only made a few Canoes, the double bolsters is a little too much for him now. I am fortunate to own two of them, the other one has abalone scales, but the pattern is identical.

Thanks for the compliment.

I think Canoes are a great pattern. They're so easy to carry, and float in the pocket like an Old Town cedar-sided paddler. Here's my favorite D2 Queen canoe. It is a special one as it is a gift from brother blues. :)

Hi,

I like the clean elegance of your mammoth ivory Todd A. It says something for a pattern that can look good without needing any enhancement. And yet when you see something like Jame's custom, those engraved bolsters just blow you away! That knife is a work of art!

I'm thinking if I could get a Queen D2 Canoe like yours fewpop, I'd bite on that. I don't have a Queen and I'm curious.

You really should try a 'Bean Blue Sky. They make for a really nice "Sunday go to Meetin' knife". All while being as useful as the big Canoe.

There is something that draws me to the canoe style as well. I don't own any, yet. But when I look at knives, my eyes go right to the canoes. I will be purchasing some once the money situation gets worked out.

OK, my Queen showed up today as hoped. :) A few group shots:

Scales are nice, main blade spring a little soft but adequate. Main blade is tight, the small blade has just a little bit of play. Edges are OK, a bit thick but better than I expected after reading a lot of comments here. Overall I like it fine. I was surprised by the difference in thickness between the two blades, the main is quite a bit thicker.

(I think I'll have to try a bean now, just to round out the group...)

here's a "new" grind 62131 case.

Is that a three blade canoe?

Isn't a three blade canoe called a Gunboat? IIRC, it is.

I have two Canoes right now and love them both. This is the knife that has won over all others as my EDC. Perfect size for my pocket and the the blades are just the right shape for me.

Yes, the large one is the "Gunboat" pattern. Three blades: spear, sheepsfoot and spey. Closed length 4-1/4". Not much talk about them here for some reason. I might convert the spey to a clip point and make it a little more useful to me but haven't got up the nerve yet...

I put the one that is open in my own collection...I couldn't resist it! (psst....don't tell Wendy!)

Hi,

Who made those okbohn? The main blade point is just a bit different and I like it. A very nice set!

There have been some fantastic looking canoes posted. I guess I've got some work ahead of me!!
