I absolutely love the blade, both the shape and the material. I’ve never seen that sort of Damascus and it’s mesmerizing.

If I may offer some constructive criticism, I think a more simple, yet still elegant handle would let the blade really shine. That’s a matter of personal taste, though, and I would not be surprised if others disagree.

No matter what, it’s a job very well done. Congratulations.

It's funny because my thought was a simpler blade would let the handle shine.

I love the look of that damascus! Looks like a brand new blade with a naturally formed patina of a knife that has been used everyday for a lifetime!

Great shape and handle! I tend to follow the thought that both distract from each other, but I think it's an amazing looking knife!

I love the look of the handle, and the blade is amazing! Is the framing of the mammoth flush? It looks like the top part sticks up in the pictures, which would be odd for when when holding the knife.
Nicely done overall!

I actually find that Damascus much more attractive than the fine pattern manufactured stuff. It would be nice on any handle material.
Its beautiful. Not much else to say really. Be proud!

Thx for all the feedback responses.
also I do not have a name yet for this model but I'm thinking to call it the "Clarkdale"...

The Damascus Suminagashi is a laminated steel bar with 22 layers of mild steel and a Takefu white steel core. I've used this steel quite often in my kitchen knives, I first used it Dec 2015 when learning with Murray Carter at his shop.

Here is the first one with this steel I completed a couple of weeks ago, same handle shape also accommodates a wharncliff blade.

The bronze pops the mammoth and ebony. Is the look of that blade done through a hamon?

It is not a Hamon, it is high carbon core with a satin and then etched finish.

the handle design is influenced by a Howard Hitchmough fixed blade I own designed by Bob Loveless.

. yes indeed it is, the silicon bronze is flush with the mammoth. I let the curve of the mammoth dictate the rounding and shape.

I really like all the material choices together. Not a huge fan of the screws, but that's more of a personal thing with me. They do go well with your build though, a modern looking traditional.

Very nice!

I like your choice of materials and love integral bolsters. I don't understand why more people don't use bronze, it's harder than brass but prettier than stainless. Your blade shape is useful and you have put a fine even edge on it that many makers can't do. However, I don't like screw in slipjoints and the nail nick appears to be a mistake but I think that's just an artifact of the photography and layered steel ;)
