The files used at BirGorkha are made in India and I'm not sure what sort of steel they use. However, I do know they don't hold up as well as files from the Western world. We'll be seeing more retis in a few months.

The Reti is a seriously neat knife. One could say it seems almost dainty, but only in the way a katana feels dainty compared to a claymore. The blade isn't quite 1/4 inch thick, and only flares to 1 1/16 at its widest. Mine came very sharp with a slightly off-center wire edge. Having knocked that off, it took me about two hours (I said one in the other thread, but I guess it was really closer to two) to get it where I wanted it--yes, the steel is that hard!
Hair jumps out of its way now, and I have a feeling this will hold an edge forever. Won't chop down any trees, but I bet it'll trim brush like nobody's business--not to mention silence those sentries somebody metioned...
And for some reason, having the file hatch (now smooth, of course) on the blade is just cool. And hey, it should hold oil better!
Check the "Received my Reti" thread by ferguson also, some good reviews.

Hey Warren. I'm doing ok. Went to see the surgeon yesterday. Boy, was that fun and grins. I'm glad you like the Reti. I'll be interested in seeing what you have to say after you use it. Think they need any help trimming the foliage in the Quad? Maybe you can deal with one or two of the "killer squirrels."

I dunno...it's not the same Corps that Justin and I were in. The new commandant doesn't like sharp things. Of course--I'm not under his control now. Were I still in, I'd have to keep my Reti in my boot. Thankfully, our boots were tall enough to fit a fair amount in! 
Those squirrels were tricky--there was one who would come up to you and eat out of your hand. There was another one that would come up and just bite you.
