Just curious, why the two week wait to relist?

I've always wondered why bladeforums has such a long waiting period on relisting items for sale or trade. Every other forum I frequent is 24-72 hours and two weeks seems like an eternity by comparison.

Related ?- How has it worked out for the moderators? I would think very well, with the time frame and it being a relisting rather then a bump. I have never been on a forum that there wasn't flagrant abuse of bump rules(mostly due to never reading the rules in the 1st place). Sales seem to adapt to the time frame allowed.

As a positive side-effect, helps you focus on real life than being camped on the forums! [emoji1]

Rules are rules..everyone follows them to make certain one individual isnt always bumping or reposting infront of new posts.

Yeah, I've read that but there is no explanation of why. I realize that site owners can make up whatever rules they choose but I've always wondered why bladeforums wait time is 5x any other forum I've used, especially considering the required fees to sell or trade.

It doesn't say why the time frame but did say why the no bumps
"Bumping threads or "BTTT" in the sales sections has been disabled due to abuse. See #9 above for clarification."
That is all I saw. A lot of this is trial and error. I have had the rules and time frames on other forums change many times, trying to get the system to work better for the Moderators and fair for the members. Members(a few) are pretty good at screwing up some of the best laid plans.
I think a moderator will get here soon with a little insight into the system.
From what I have seen this seems to work. You stay toward the front for a longer time. Moderators don't have to read a ridiculous amount of threads and check for early bumping. You certainly wouldn't want to do a complete new listing every couple days. If they think 14 isn't needed I believe they might adjust, but that is up to them. I check fairly often, so I don't look very deep into the pages, but if I didn't look as often I would look at more pages since I know we are on a 14 day cycle. The problem isn't the cycle, it is slow sales IMO(if I sold it I never would have to relist and that is the goal).

Maybe it's just enough to give other sellers a chance as most sale threads get bumped off page 1 in a day. The individual sale sub forums are used fast and furiously. From a buyers point of view its more interesting to not be looking at knives in new threads that were only posted a few days ago. Makes the sales forum more dynamic and gives us a reason to look often at what is new rather than what is reheated.

Maybe a slight modification though to the 2 weeks rules (if anyone is motivated to make a change) is to let one re-list after their sale thread gets to the top of Page 7 - however long that might be.

I can dig that explanation.

Interesting idea, but I don't think it would be a good idea across the boards because each sub forum has it's own frequency. Some sales subforums (Production Folders Individual) move very quickly and you'd be able to repost in just a couple of days. Others (Buck) are much slower and you'd be waiting literally months to repost.

If you really need to sell something you'll price it right so it will fly off the shelf while on the front page.

When I'm buying (or browsing) I'll usually check back through the first 5-10 pages or further depending on time and boredom just to see what's out there.

I personally don't mind the two week wait for sales. For trades, it would be nice to be able to repost after a week because the more exposure can yield more offers.

Exactly. It levels the playing field for attention between members who may not have the same time to list things.

I look at it this way, the same amount of items are there, just distributed more evenly. You actual see more unique ads in a given 2 week period rather than the same ones relisted endlessly.

...... this is so very true... !!! Every forum has that few members that will bump of list in rapid succession so as each time you enter the market place their threads are ALL you see, the arrangement here means that buyers can see what is actually NEWLY listed without having to wade through the detritus or bumped and re-listed threads.

It wasn;t always that way. Too many people had impulse control problems and abused the system in place. They would bump their Ninja Death Tool 4000 up to the top every 5 minutes and the Exchange looked like a giant pile of shit. At least now, people can list their stuff and have a decent shot at selling it, provided they have pictures, don't charge 7% fees, and know how to write a sales ad.

For the super lazy out there, the Exchange has a search forum all it's own. Once you get to the main subforum you want to search, type in what you want and every thread with that word pops up. It cannot be easier to find items than it is right now. You can also list your item in your signature space, that is something over 90% of people don't bother doing. For an example of what it looks like check out Craytab's signature space, that is how you do it.

What is not going to work is different rules for different exchange forums. Ain't nobody have time for that.

I use the search function all the time on the exchange. Missed a couple days on the folders for sale by individuals? Type what you are looking for and it all comes up. The sig thing is a great idea. If you are participating in a meaningful way outside the exchange lots of people will see what you are selling.
