I recently got a new folding knife (schrade sch001) that has 9cr14mov steel. It is a pain in the ass to get a a nice hair popping edge on this thing. Yes it was a budget folder I know but come on. Now I'm new to the whole knife world. So I was wonder why is it so hard to a get a nice edge? I can't really afford the super top of the line knives so the majority of my knives either have 8cr13mov or aus8 or aus8a. Those blades I can get a cut edge on. So what's up with the 9cr? Am I literally gonna have to spend an hour sharpening my knife? Someone school me. Like I said I am new to the knife world. Thanks

Could be the heat treat. That and edge geometry are the biggest factors in achieving and retaining sharpness imho. You might have just gotten a lemon that slipped through the HT process.

Thanks man. I appreciate it. I'm gonna try to contact the company and see if they can help me out. I really hope I didn't get a lemon. Then again you never know when purchasing a "budget" folder.
