Got a Heiho 2 used last week and rubbed my thumb raw trying to figure out how to openly reliably. Finally caved and removed the assist spring. It went from something that can be hard to open with two hands to about as slick to open as I've seen.
This is the only assist I've handled. Are they all this bad? I'm guessing no.
I've read that the Heiho may need a lot of breaking in and particular technique but honestly there's just so much force from the assist bar that the friction is far too much. I thought about grinding the bar thinner to lessen the spring tension a bit... But too little and it won't really assist much.
