Just got a brand new droid mini two days ago...super excited.

Got home dropped it and it slid on the concrete screen down.

Fortunately only a few minor scratches no cracks and only a few tiny chips on the side of the screen.

Do you guys know of a way to fill the scratches or do I just suck it up and put a screen protector on the phone?

I did do the 9$ a month insurance for this guy so I'm not too worried about anything and my case is on the way from amazon (not paying 80$ for a case at the Verizon store)

Anyways let me know what you think and if you have ever done what I just did...by the way I'm not taking sandpaper to my phone like a knife;).

Usually, the screen protector goes on before the damage takes place. It's kind of a preventative thing. ;)
Get an Otterbox case for it and you'll be set.

Hey, it happens. Normally, I would prefer not using a case on my phone, but the damn thing is so slick that it slides out of my hands. I haven't dropped mine yet (iPhone) and to keep it that way, I got a Otterbox commuter case. Has a built in screen protector, hard shell case and a silicone/rubber bumper. I've dropped it on asphalt, concrete, and a tile floor and not even a hint of damage.v:D

Otterboxes are great. I kept my 2 previous smartphones in Commuter cases (only crappy cases are available for my current phone), dropped them many times (once down half a flight of concrete stairs), and never cracked a screen. I've read good things about Trident cases, but never had one myself. If you're feeling adventurous, you could pick up a new digitizer off eBay (with tools) for under $30. This'll void the warranty though, of course.

Otterboxes are great. I've been using the Defender series for a while. No broken phones even though they taken multiple tumbles, falls, etc. Their customer service is very good as well. I recently broke the clip off the holster when I snagged it on a seat belt. Even though it was my fault, they replaced the entire case for free. Sent them a picture of the broken case and they FedEx'd a new one. Didn't even have to dig out a receipt.

Just realized which phone you said you had. The wife has the same phone and also uses the Defender case. It doesn't bulk the phone up too much, where as the Defender on my Q10 does add a good amount of bulk to it.

That sucks. If it's something u can't live with I would use the insurance. Sometimes u still have to pay a deductible tho so just be aware. And since it's technically not a defect. Anyway Imo I would go with urban armour gear for a case. I've used Otterbox and they were just too big and bulky for me, I had problems with it as well. It got all stretched out and wouldn't fit my phone right anymore and they have u jump through all kinds of hoops to collect on the warranty. Whenever I get a new phone I am very delicate with it until I get that case on it.

LOL... OP, you are not alone. I did almost the exact same thing with my new Droid Mini :D

I hadn't had it very long, and couldn't decide on a case. One day I was getting in my truck, and as I climbed up, I forgot there was something I was going to check before I left the yard. The truck was idling, and I set it on the leather seat. Well... It slid off the seat, hit the floor of the truck, bounced out and hit the fuel tank, then hit the gravel.

These phones are fairly tough with the Gorilla glass, and kevlar body, but a rock hit right on the very edge of the glass and cracked it.

Here's the ironic thing. I had ordered a carbon fiber case for it about a week earlier, and my wife called about 15 minutes after that happened, and told me my new case was here LOL... I told her it was a little late :D

Called Verizon, and they sent a new phone out next day air. The phone still worked fine though, but looked like crap
