Just finished this one up. Will be giving it to an employee tomorrow so that she can surprise her husband with it for Valentine's Day.

m3emphis, that's really nice. Without unveiling any trade secrets, how did you get the axe head to look new like that?

If I told you, I'd have to kill you...just kidding. I didn't do anything special, but here's what I did. Hit it with a flap disc on an angle grinder, then progressive hand sanding down to 400 grit, gun blued it, and buffed with 000 steel wool.

Thanks, man.

All of my heads have light to moderate pitting from age. After soaking them, they just have a dull grey patina to them. Even filing and sanding doesn't help to much. I need more time in the garage...

Ha...you need an angle grinder with flap discs!!! :D Countless hours saved...

Very nice M3mphis. I hope the guy getting it will really use it. It'd be a shame for it to just sit somewhere.

Great job Matt, love the straight handle. Ya gotta love angle grinders :D My new favourite tool.

Best regards

R

Steve, you are amazing. That's the one! I can't believe you just did that. TA DA!!!!!

I'll be a bad magician and reveal my "tricks". A 30-second forum search for "Trumpeter" to fiind the thread I recalled where you mentioned buying this axe head. 30 more seconds to follow the link you provided to the auction listing and find the photos. 2 minutes to post the photos here. Total elapsed time: 3 minutes.

Great work on this axe, I agree. The type of gift you can't buy in stores.

Yes...BUT...you remembered that I mentioned buying it in another thread! I don't remember what I had for dinner last night! :D
