This one is handled with Koa Wood from Hawaii (I think that is how it is spelled)12 inches of forged 5160 Hand rubbed to 1200 grit then lightly buffed,Mild steel guard,Steel framed handle at 6 inches long. Mosaic pin on one side only for visual referance of what way the knife is setting.Hand stitched leather sheath with a nickel silver pinned on throat and tip ( done without soldering the pieces together like some of the old Bowies were done)..
Please let me and Stumpy know what you guys think.

Outstanding! Great looking even up close. I know how hard that steel is to get to 1200. Love the guard and that Koa too.

Its beautiful work to me. What I noticed most was the nice plunge line. That's what I'm working on. I want to be able to make plunge lines clean like that. Thanks for the close up. The rest of it is just too far beyond me to comment on except for WOW!

Thanks everybody....

Rhino, sorry this is some I traded Tom Mayo for.

rlinger, plunge lines just take practice and patience to clean up.If you have to after you do your grind just scribe a line on both sides of the blade and then take a file and cut in even plunge lines. This is how I did them for a long time while I was learning how to get them even on the grinder.

Bruce,Since I started using the palm grip sander with the micarta pad on it,the higher grits aren't as time consuming or hard as they used to be;)

Bob,What kind of details do you want?

Bruce

Bruce that flippin rocks! Never seen anything like it even from you. That finish is awesome, the guard and filework just perfect. I think Bob was saying you didn't miss one single detail...this baby is tricked out. ;)

Dave

Dave,Thanks I believe you are correct about Bob's Details.I didn't look at it that way until you said that.
I find mydelf watching all the small details anymore and taking more time to get them correct. Thanks for noticing Bob.

As I have said in other places, use a optivisor when working on your knives and when you have people look at it with out magnification your work looks even better. They also help when griding. If you don't want to invest in the optivisor,Just go down to the local Dollar Tree or Dollar General stor and pick up a pair of magnified reading glasses,They have them in different strengths and they work great. The reason I suggest Dollar tree is that they are only a dollar for a pair and that way you can get a couple different strengths for just a couple of dollars instead of the twenty or more dollars on the optivioser. This trick will suprise you at how well it will enable you to get a great finish or joint in your final fit and finish of your knives.
Better quit rambling here.
Thanks everybody.
Bruce

Looks great, hope to get there one day.

How about a better pic of that file work
on the spine?

Mighty fine package Bruce. I just got some Koa from the islands, haven't worked any yet. It seems hard enough. Does it need stablizing? If not what kind of finish do you recommend? Thanks for sharing, great knife. Terry

Terry,I have found it to be real soft so I stabilized mine.Otherwise a good oiled finish or a super glue finish would be fine..
