Looks like you're already hooked! Next you need to get some blade steels and handle material and you're off to the races :)

you will live a lot longer if you quite messing with those galvanized parts.

Does Lowes or Home Depo sell any good steel? Or will I have to buy it over the internet?

I would like to use differant steels but the poll cuff was the best thing i could find.

Lowes has steel that's good for guards and stuff, but not for blades. If there's any spring shops in town you might be able to get some new steel from them, if not the internet has everything you want.

home depot will have nothing but mild steel. non hardenable, except for files and prybars...

Online, ebay, Wholesale tool has some good prices on 0-1 it will be cheaper there than at the knife supply store. MSC and Mcmaster Carr should have some too
Any Spring shops in your town? that's a source for 5160 or some of the 10XX series depending on the shop.

Junkyard steels, old files, old prybars, leaf springs...anneal first (heat to cherry red and cool in still air)
