Just finished a slip joint and am afraid to call it a trapper after reading one of the posts here lol. So call it what you will. Texas Jack maybe?
D2 with Black Linen micarta
6 1/4" open with a 3" blade and is hollow ground, My first hollow ground blade by the way. THIS ONE IS SPOKEN FOR AND IS NOT FOR SALE.
Comments welcome thanks.

Hi Rusty, nice to see you here.

Lots of folks would call that a single blade trapper style. I consider that handle frame more characteristic of a clasp knife but it works either way and nobody would be faulted for describing it as either imho. (BRL also calls that a "curved regular jack".)

A Jack has two blades (i think)........ just messin'! That is a sweet looking knife. Looks like it would fill the hand well. I like a knife with a forward angled blade in relation to the handle.

...um, I'd call it right pretty!

Thanks for the complements, it's a modified Ruple pattern that I've been using. I picked it up from a maker by the name of Wes Davis he's a JS and has helped a lot with my slip joints..

Job well done Rusty, since you are the maker, call it what you want. Curved Trapper comes to mind for me.
Congrats,
Jim

The handle is very similar to one I have from Don Morrow, that was called a single blade trapper. It definately was influenced by Bill Ruple.

Very nice trapper you made there. Someone will be very pleased.

I would not call that late for dinner. I would call it a very nice custom knife.

You could also post this in Bernard's forum and solicit his advice as to what to call it. I think he would call it a "curved regular folding hunter" (no pen blade as in a curved regular jack). A lot of others would call it a single blade trapper.

I'd call it good looking, why did you make the ricasso start in the tang rather than start of the edge?

That's just the way I ground it. It is my first time hollow grinding a blade. I thought it looked OK so I stoped there I will take that into consideration next time

My first thought was saddlehorn... not as much curve as the average saddlehorn, but the wide butt end and slight curve are there...

Whatever ya call it, it is beautiful!
