This is a customer design. But I coulden't help myself and dressed up the guard and buttcap (Hope he likes it)I still have the throat and tipped sheath to make for it tonight. It kind of has a Medieval look to it in my opinion.I will have to get Donna to model all the newest knives this weekend since the pictures have been taken while she is sleeping.

The specs are:
5 3/4 inch double edged and forged 5160 blade, hand rubbed to 2000 grit then polished off with notebook paper. The gyard was 3 inches before the bend making it 2 1/2 inches across,I hand shaped the sides and carved the shells with hand files, hand made the ferrules that are 1/2 inch across them and made the buttcap by making a ferrule and attaching the but plate to it then fileworking the edges. Then I hand turned the water buffalo horn handle pieces to 3/4 inch across and turned in the ends so they have sections that fit inside the ferrules thus a very strong handle since the tang goes all the ay through and is bolted in place with a nut under the buttcap, the handle is 4 1/4 inches long..

Please give me your comments on this one,
Thanks,
Bruce

Awesome! The shells carved into the guard are great! The fluted plate in front of the guard is beautiful too, all this is what adds up to a spectacular object. Are the ferrules hollow then? Filled with epoxy? And the nut inside the butt ferrule, soldered in place? You asked for comments, got questions! Thanks for sharing another inspiring piece,

Dave

Thanks Dave,The Ferrules are partly hollow as the ends of the horn were turned to fit inside tthem snugly about 3/8 inch in side the ferrule, then the rest is filled with epoxy and yes the nut is soldered in the buttcap and threaded onto the threaded bolt that was brazed on to make the last 3/4 inch of tang...

I'll admit, I'm not too keen on the handle design but the guard and blade are amazing! In my opinion, nothing shows off a maker's skill like a perfect double edged blade.

Disco,I am with you on the handle kinda,But it was a customer design and really it isn't that bad in the hand.

The customer is always right unless you are Bob Loveless. This is a very nice piece of work and although the handle is not my favorite doesnt discount this babie. Nice work. What a show off on that blade and shell guard tips.

hey guy you better wash your hands before picking that up again
the maker is going to be mad at you..:D :D

just kidding Bruce very nice job I like it...:D

Bobs not wrong it's just that the customer
doesn't know he's wrong that dosn't make him right? :)

Man, just get back after two crappy weeks on the rig and what do I see? Absolutly beutifull Bruce! Like was said, not real crazy about the handle, but looks like it would be about right for a ladies hand.

That blade shape is just plain awsome, looks simple, but bet it was a pain to grind evenly. The shell ends on the guard realy sets it off.

Aw well, just what I needed to get energized again to get off my but and back out in the shop!

Really nice piece of work there, guy! But you ain't off the hook yet. You still owe us a pic of Donna modeling the knife!

Great work. I like to see customers designing there own handles. It makes the knife truely a one off. At the same time I like your artistic touches to make it Bruce EVANS flavour/style.

Bruce,

You continue to amaze me. I wonder at the speed you turn out such high quality in workmanship. Even though I am not a fan of the type knives you like to make I hold you as a bench mark in craftsmanship to which someday myself hope to attain.

Roger
