Just finished this knife for a friend over the weekend and finished the sheath today.

4.25" gut-hook blade, .125" thick, 9.5" overall, antler handle with brass guard/pin and a corion spacer. Steel is from an old colter and I did a backyard heat treat.

After posting some pictures of the last ones I finished, I can remember some important pointers to work on...
#1. Bring the grind lines way up- check
#2. Work on hand sanding for the final finish- still needs a bit of work
#3. Use known steel- /ducks

Any additional pointers are appreciated as always.

Looks pretty good, ya could work on your photos a tad as its hard to see the details but from what I can see it looks good. I think I personally would of dropped the guard down a bit. Not a bad job on the sheath either.

Thank you Quint. Yeah, the photos leave something to be desired. In the past I have taken them outside which seems to work better, but it was raining when I took these. Let's hope the sun comes out tomorrow before I make delivery on the knife and I can get some better pictures. I had envisioned using an over the guard retention strap on the sheath but I didn't feel the guard was prominent enough for that. So I feel the same that the guard needed to be a touch longer.

Thank you,
Chris

Looks great! I don't use gut hooks, so I may be mistaken, but I've noticed that on most knives where they are present, they are raised up above the spine of the knife, rather than filed in. This probably allows for easier use, but i'm no expert.

Thank you adinb114. I don't use gut hooks either but my friend wanted one. You are correct in that most hooks are above the spine, but I really just don't care for that look. I tried to use an angle that would allow for dropping it down below the spine, though perhaps I should have ground a bit more of the hump out just behind it. Time will tell, as this knife will get used in the field, hopefully within the next week or so!

Thanks,
Chris
