Well, I've been flapping them around anyway. Inspired by pict's golok-ized Tramontina I ordered a couple new ones and just finished hacking the tip of my shiny new 18". He wasn't kidding when he said these things are tough. It's cut though and I can start some shaping :D

How many inches did you take off? I really like the finished pic of the one you posted!

I just took the last couple inches off and rounded out the profile. I'll try and post some pictures when I get some work done on the handle.

Ok, crappy camera phone picture added. This is where we are at the moment.

That looks great. I love what you did with the handle, looks very comfortable. One of the benefits of modifying the Latin pattern machetes is that they will fit in a standard sheath.

I'm pretty happy with how it's coming along. The handle needs some more work but all in all, I like it.

Did you carve that handle down out of the original? I have a project going to rehandle Tramontina blades with tropical hardwood. I have a really large piece of nice wood left over from my office bookshelves that is just screaming to be made into machete handles. I need to get over to my friends cabinet shop to use his power tools, my shop is strictly "unplugged" and this wood is very hard and dense. Mac

ETA - I love the blade profile.

That's the original handle with some time against the belt sander. I thought about re-handling this one but decided to give this a shot first and I'm pretty happy with it. After I finish the shaping it gets some hemp cord wrap, or at least that's the idea right now.

Actually, that leads me to a question I was going to ask. Does anyone have a picture of a tram with the handle stripped off? I'd really like to see what the tang looks like before I start ripping off handles.

Hey that machete looks great with the mods you´ve added to it! Thats sure an inspiration for our projects going around here! Thank you so much for posting it!
