he forgot to use the spell of invulnerability before the boots, or he'd a bin OK.

Actually I think the Invulnerability spell has a long cast time so they might have caught onto him and interrupted it before he could have had time to finish the spell. But he would have probably still gotten a nightstick dance put on him, which is better than that +4 Glock he was winged with

He forgot to use the command word to activate his boots of escaping. That and he needs to put more skill points into diplomacy. Perhaps increase his wisdom and get some knowlege (common sense).
