Now let's see some of yours:)

I'll take a pic in the morning....but for me it would be my kershaw volt (2) which I retired a couple weeks ago.

I have almost the same Rat1. Mine ha the black blade. I didn't know that the "coating" was only paint when I ordered it. However, the paint is pretty tough!

I really like my brown one, but I also have a backup in desert tan scales with a black blade. It looks cool with that color combo.

I'm just going to say "screw your $40" :p
19 bucks more and you can get a knockout.

Why you gotta be hatin?

I am not looking for a new knife, and have many that are more expensive.

I just wanted to see some of the budget knives that people have bought and like.

There are some good and fun EDC blades out there for under 40 bucks, and many people have them.

Basically, ANY of Kershaw's budget line. My favorite is the OSO Sweet, but the Clash, Asset, Tremor, Skyline, Burst, Drone, Crown, RJ1 and RJ2, Kuro, Compound, Half Ton...I pretty much like all of them.

Aside from Kershaw, the Tenacious and it's relatives are nice choices, as are most of the Byrd lineup.

working with limits
and not ignoring thread themes
are beautiful things

I was making a joke people. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

Here you go. Some under $40 knives.

And the #1 budget knife made, the Opinel.

I like the gentleman's shiv. Is that a Skyline? I've never seen one in that color scheme.

Jaja. It's been discontinued for a little while now, and I picked one up NIB for a song just a month or so ago. They're still around if you look.

Don't get me wrong - I was just happy to bust out a topically-appropriate haiku. I mean, it was a haiku - thus, limited syllables - about working within limits.

I'm not quite done patting myself on the back yet.

I've been thinking of a large voyager...but I can't decide which blade shape.

Vaquero/Nogales is an acquired taste, the clip point or tanto are going to be the best for most people in the typical utility role for familiarity, ease of sharpening with regular bench stones, etc. I liked the looks of the vaquero and wanted to test out the blade shape in a back-up weapon role. Outside of deeply puncturing very hard, tough materials it does everything very well with some adjustment for some things. Goes through rope and sapling trees very fast, super thin behind the edge without being fragile - probably right on the end of sensible.

Case CV slipjoints.
