I decided to restore an axe I purchased in the 1970s. I think I paid about five dollars for it at Quality Farm n Fleet (since bought out by Tractor Supply). I have no idea who made the axe. I would guess the head weighs about two and a half pounds with a 28" handle. At that time I owned five acres of land and built a house on it. I moved into the house 35 years ago. Throughout those years I got alot of use out of that little axe. However I never really took care of it. I liked using it but I chopped whatever, put it away wet, etc. Anyway, I thought it deserved some attention for all the use it gave me.

Here it is before

I bought the handle at a local hardware ($8-9?). I took the laquer off the handle, sanded it, and put on BLO. I cleaned up the head, repainted it, and sharpened it. After all that I estimate its value at around five bucks. But it's not for sale.

Thanks for looking,
Bob

I like that a lot. Yeah it doesnt have a fancy makers mark, or imprint, or paper label, but like you said, I bet that thing gave you some work and you dont owe it anything. Nice clean up job and rehaft.

I just did the same thing with a no name boys axe, and it is enjoyable to do, and rewarding when you are done.

Well done! Congrats!

Looks like a new axe, nice job! You couldn't buy a better axe at Tractor Supply today.

The red paint is nice. You shouldnt have one of the moments I know I have had in the woods -

"Now where the heck did I put that axe?"
