What if lockbacks had just been invented? Would they be the new super lock? simple construction, good strength..We all look at new technology as unbeatable, but what if it was new now?

hmmmmmm....I think the lockblade, if it were new, would lose its appeal, I think it would take a little longer than most though. I believe a well made liner lock is superior, just my opinion. I have had , when I was younger, two buck 110's fail on me. there are pretty good lockblades out there, but I must say most lockblades after much use begin to have lock play, example one of my syderco standards I use to have.

I think they would gain respect as being very strong and secure, but would lose points for being slow and awkward. Quite difficult to do one-handed without lots of practice. The great advantage of liner locks, and new Axis-style locks it their speed, and ease of use one-handed.

I agree with Daniel Dorn.

IMHO a lock back might make it on heavy duty less expensive knives but would lose out to axis, frame, and liner locks at the mid to high end range.

I'm perfectly fine with the spydie's lockback... in fact I got so used to it, I fumble to close a linerlock.
The older lockbacks place the bar at a very awkward location, so you can't really release the lock one handed.
After working on my Endura a bit and using some lube on the pivot, it's loose enough to drop down when the lever is pressed, making one handed closing a lot easier.
Otherwise I don't think they matter as long as it's decently easy to open one handed and close one handed.
