While I was just perusing the interwebs for billhook images I stumbled across this bizarre thing...I kind of want one! Too bad it seems that they're only made for the Euro market. :o

Clickety click!

I don't just "kind of" want one. I want one NOW!!!

That thing looks like it would be a lot of fun for brush clearing.

I'd have to wear a black, hooded cloak if I carried that. Or would camo be more appropriate?
Seriously though, pretty cool. I want one for around my property.

They do make a shorter handled version of that tool that's available in the US:

But you are right, the big one does not seem to be available here. :(

Popular in Finland. It's built like a long version of the version Martiini use to make.

Well yeah--that's what surprises me! We're all familiar with the little one--it's in stores all over the U.S.! But no big one! Whyyyyyyyyyy....? :(

You might see it if enough folks ask Fiskars for it, the little Fiskars/Gerber version was available in Europe for many years before it made it here.

For some reason, Billhooks never caught on in the U.S. . Closest we get are the long Brush hook or ditch blade types.

Condor has had some success with their Bush Knife model. I've been asking them to make a bigger one but no luck so far. :o

I think I'll be sending Fiskars a little e-mail. ;)

The Gerber machetes are--unfortunately--pretty awful if you ask me. :o

I'm sending them an email right now to see if they can be ordered direct. :cool:

Hmmm....well the text is all in Finnish or something anyway. I sent them an email, so let's see what they have to say about North American availability. :)

ETA: I just ran the page through Google Translator and it says this:

Billhook

* The traditional two-handed billhook.
* Blade of the PTFE coating to reduce cutting friction.
* Fixed blade and arm joints.
* Woody plant.

Those are a bit lighter than I like (but one should do fine). I used to work one summer with old no brand one, was heck of a bush clearer. I chopped lots of light firewood with one against log, thousands and thousands of hits. Didn't even need to be that sharp to cut, and chopping with one hand gave some good "free" workout. :D :thumbup:

Thanks! There's only so much that an automatic translator can do. I figure that they're referring to the intended target material, though--that looks like one of their polymer handles. Am I correct?

I have been looking for the short version any time I walk into a new hardware store here on Canada's east coast, no luck so far. I may have to hold out for the longer one though, it looks pretty sweet. :)
