So I would like to see what you think is the best of some of my SAK Knifes.

Criteria: You have to use the following for ranking. You can't rank based on cool factor or looks. Your ranking must be based on overall function, daily practicality, and portability (comfort/easy of carry) for average person .

Here are the choices:
Tinker
Supertinker
Cadet
Pioneer
Farmer
Centurion

Rank them 1 being best 6 being poorest.

Thanks for playing

In order of their tool load out:

Super Tinker
Tinker
Centurion
Farmer
Pioneer
Cadet

IMHO, each is carried comfortably, so the more implements, the merrier.

It is interesting to see the difference in the order from Y'all.

The difference seems to be in how important to the user are SAK size and weight. I favor the extras, brm prefers less bulk. Properly carried, I think the differences among these SAKs are slight, so I'll go with the ones that offer greater versatility. Over time, all the gadgets on my SAKs get used, so I like having them, even those that get used seldom. There is something to be said for minimalism, but not by me.

I would rank the cadet up there at the top, in spite of the fact it doesnt have alot of tools. However, it seems to always have what you need, when you need it. And it disappears in a pocket which cant be said for their thicker models. Mine has done everything in the past week from cutting my breakfast, opening packages and mail, cutting pallet straps, and even putting a fine layer of cream cheese on my bagel this morning, to even fixing a bad door handle at work. I wondered how much I would use it when I bought it but its become indispensable.

I find myself going to the Cadet, Pioneer, and Tinker above all others. The Cadet is the easiest to carry but the Tinker and Pioneer weigh about the same with most the daily tools anyone would need. I have been going to my Tinker a lot lately.

Ooh, I will play. Some good models you listed there, some that I have carried for years.

1. Tinker- hands down my favorite and most carried Vic tool since I was about 8 years old. Has a great toolset for the city. I find the small blade surprisingly valuable, and use the back layer philips often. Perfect combo of size, layers, and tools in my opinion.

2. Pioneer- great daily carry knife, excellent toolset, and the durability and aesthetics of the alox scales. I do not own this one, but have gifted several over the years.

3. Farmer- One of my new favorites, and now carry one more often in place of my Tinker. Love the saw, not crazy about the extra layer. Also is usually a backup to a fixed blade outdoors. Have only been wise to this model for a couple of years now, but since I purchased it it has become my most carried model.

4. Cadet- Very versatile daily carry, but not one I own or have ever carried. I much prefer the Tinker to this model and the slightly smaller size is not a big deal to me.

5. Centurion- I do not own this one, but I do love the 111mm knives. I often carry a one hand Trekker outdoors and it serves me well, but it is a sheath knife for me, too big for a pocket. A Vicotrionx that can do some serious cutting. The one hand opening and locking setup are good also. Space on some outings is limited and when I need one knife to do it all the One Hand Trekker is my choice.

6. Super Tinker- Love the Tinker, don't care at all for the scissors on a Victorinox (I know blasphemy) but its true. I even carry the Rally on my keychain in place of a Classic SD, just because I find the scissors a wasted layer. I just plain don't use them and would rather have a saw, file, or small blade. I do understand that they are very popular, and a must have for a lot of Victorinox guys. My wife loves the scissors and won't carry a tool without them.

Just my quick thoughts. Fun post.

Close to my own opinion of the Tinker until 1996 when I became a knife knut. I got distracted by the dazzling world of, among other goodies, Swiss Army Knives. But while the others had neat appendages, like fish scalers and meat hooks, I never lost sight of what made the Tinker a classic, and when eventually my head cleared, the Tinker remained in the rotation. Re collim, a "Perfect combo of size, layers, and tools."

2. Pioneer- great daily carry knife, excellent toolset, and the durability and aesthetics of the alox scales. I do not own this one, but have gifted several over the years.

The same! Several years ago when they could sometimes be bought at bargain prices, I would pick up a few for gifts. I didn't find it offered as much utility as the Tinker, but it would make a dandy gift. They were well received (I think.)

Why! I could have written that very same paragraph without changing a word. That can mean only one thing; Collin must be my long lost twin separated in infancy during a storm in the South China Sea. I seem to have had several of those. They post here once in a while.

Also likewise, only I don't mind the teenie scissors because they don't take up enough space to be noticeable. And who knows? Maybe some day I'll find a thread that needs to be cut. Also likewise, my wife's attitude. She owns a Climber and a Leatherman Squirt S4, the latter of which she had for several months before discovering there were other tools on it.

Fun post.

Oh, totally! :D

Small Tinker
Tinker
Cadet
Pocket Pal
One Hand Trekker

Of course there are more I want to try. To name a few, Farmer, Mechanic, Super Tinker.
