Hey ya'll. I just made an account on here and thought I would share my current projects and update as I go along if anyone is interested! All of the following blades are hand forged from bearings which I have had traced and are 52100. I am a follower of Ed Fowler's methodology. I am fully aware of and have read all of the threads pertaining to the same and know there's a ton of controversy there. I'm not here for that. Just to share what i'm doing at this point in my journey. 3x quenched in Texaco Type A, 3x normalized, annealed, initial grind, 3x differential hardening via O/A (24 hrs in the freezer in between cycles), convex ground, 3 x tempered and then hand sanded and etched.

Thanks for looking! Constructive criticism welcomed and embraced.

Before I read the text of your post I could see the Ed Fowler influence.
Welcome to BladeForums and success on your journey.

I made it out to the Willow Bow today for some edge retention/cut testing today with Ed Fowler and Chris Amos. We used 3/8 in Sisal rope backed with a block of soft pine. The larger 5 in. blade made 250 cuts and had more but we stopped when it started to take a measurable amount more effort. The small 3 in. blade made 300 easily with Chris and I trading off(the small tang was killing us so we stopped). The skinner was definitely the performer of the day making 400 cuts easily between Ed, Chris and I. I am certainly pleased with their performance and will keep ya'll posted as I progress to finishing them. Thanks again for the warm welcome and encouragement.
