Within all knife categories, I'm thinking either a cold steel trench hawk or trying to get a deal on a Spyderco Delica 4. I have a lot of fixed blades now, I want some ESSE's to go along with my Beckers but they are over $50.

I could get a BK2, but I just got the BK7 so I'm thinking a little diversity.

Problem with the Trench Hawk is I can't find it hardly anywhere, then when I do, Bam - $16 shipping and it's over $50 (used to be $36 free shipping on a certain site before everyone went out of stock). But I'm thinking they should be in stock soon so I may should wait and spend my $50-$60 now.

Any ideas on small fixed blades? I really want an ESSE 3,4,5,6, etc one of those small ones. Does an older Ontario or Rat one come that cheap?

Thanks guys!!!!

(ps, my BK7 is AWESOME, like a ka-bar USMC on steroids as someone here put it)

Is the BK2 too similar to the BK7 to get? Is it basically the same knife but the blade is an inch or two shorter? Ahhh, see I love my Becker Necker and I don't get to use the BK7 as much since I don't do as much actual chopping so I'm thinking the BK2 could be the best possible knife under $80 for me.

Anyone happen to have any BK2/BK7 comparison pictures?

Not that I am aware of. For that price range, you can get yourself a really good small fixed blade, AND stay in the Becker lineup. Look at the BK-14. It's the Izula handle and the Becker BK-11 Blade. Best of both worlds and for a VERY cheap price. The Becker BK-14 is a beast of a neck knife and will service you well!

oh cool thanks. I just re-posted in the Becker forum since I'm thinking Becker now as I tend to realize it's always the best for the money.

The BK-2 and 7 aren't remotely the same knife...

The BK-2 is a quarter inch thick. It's heavier than the 7 and is a pretty danged good chopper. I love mine to death. Compared to the 7, I'd say the 2 is a better chopper, much better batoner, and about even for finer work. The 7 is a better slicer and is good enough at the other stuff.

If you're looking for a smaller fixed blade though, the BK-11 or BK-14 deserves a good look. Here's my 11...

My suggestion is that you hold that money until you can save enough for an ESEE. That's what you really want, but you need the discipline not to blow all the money you have in your hands before you can reach your goal.

ESEE is nice stuff, but it's too much $$ for what you get, IMO. Yeah yeah, the warranty.

I can shop around and get two Kabar/Becker knives for the price of an ESEE.

Kabar/Becker is the best you can get for the money. They stand behind their stuff and I like the 1095 CroVan steel better than plain 1095. Gets sharper and stays sharper. It's amazing what a tiny bit of extra elements can do to a steel.

I'd go for a Bk-11 or BK-14. I have both and they are great! Small, fixed blades which i carry as a neck knife. The BK-14 has the longer handle and works well with my large hands. I also really like the AG Russell Woodswalker. You could get two with $50! Of course with just a little "push" you are close to an Izula.........sweet!:D

Words of wisdom.

Well...I dont think Ive ever seen that statement directed at ESEE/RAT. IMO, they're the most knife for the dollar on the market. And...oh yeah theyre warranty is nothing to sneeze at either.

You obviously have your mind set against them, so go with KBar/Becker...good knives, too. Just not in the same league, imo.

My $.02...and worth every penny paid for it.

I think I could understand. You could get a decent size American Lawman or Spyderco Tenacious/Persistance for that money. Hell, you could even get a Paul Bos heat treated S30V in the Buck Vantage Pro.

The Izula is just a tad...small in the hands. And while I have little doubt it would probably handle prying as well as my ZT 0301, it's hard to even think about using such a tiny little blade for that purpose.

for $57.37 on amazon with free shipping you can get a Cold Steel Spartan.... its no ESEE but you where looking for a trench hawk or at a spyderco folder so i think the spartan is in the same cool factor as the hawk and its strong enough to chop
