Howdy all,

I don't post here too much, I'm mostly over int the wilderness forum..I have a small collection of bucks a 102, a 301, and a 303, and most recently a 112, I really like the 112 I just got it today the lock up is tight, and there is 0 blade play...the action is a little gritty out of the box (I think it might be some polishing compound left over) any way I'm asking for opinions on the overall durability of this knife, I plan to edc it as well as use it while camping and small game hunting. Any tips for maintaining the moving parts, and any tricks for sharpening (I'm working on my stone skills but they are novice at best, and I'm not so used to the hollow grind) are welcome..Any thoughts are welcome as well..I'll be going away for a week to maine soon, I plan on bringing this along as my only blade..If it works out I'll definitely get more this seems like the perfect size for me...Also considering a custom 110 down the road..Thanks for listening.

The 112 has been around since 1972 and is just as rugged as its bigger brother the 110. Its longevity is testament that it will hold up to most tasks. Maintain it like any other knife. There are several sharpening systems out there that will help you maintain the proper angle when sharpening the blade. Others may be able to tell you specific names. Lansky is one that comes to mind. I personally don't use them. I use a low rpm wet stone sharpening system that I use for my wood plane irons. You're going to like your knife.

Everythng Mike said about the 112 works for me.
I use a Lansky and I still suck at sharpening...just not as much as free hand...for an Eagle Scout, I am ashamed :)
Sirusly, I like the Lansky kit.
Hope you report back on how ya like the 112

I Certainly will report back..I plan on doing a full review while on my trip..and posting pics and findings..Thanks for the help so far.

I have started to jokingly call that "Black Buck Dust" :D

I usually wash it out with just warm water under a tap, while opening and closing the knife.

Then dry and a little oil.

:D

Welcome to the Buck forum, RescueRiley! Mike pretty much nailed it on the 112. It is made with the same care and quality as the 110, yet has it's own unique attributes as to size and 'character'. You won't be disappointed.

Well I never!!! :D

In the few years I have been here, have never heard of anyone buying a 112 BEFORE they had a 110!!

Seems to me it has always been the other way around. Or I just haven't paid attention, yeah, that has to be it..

Your going to love the 112 Riley , but you may as well go ahead and grab up a 110. Get started on the addiction now, and go ahead and start looking for your local chapter of Buck Anon...:D

I believe Billy Barty had a 112...It fit his hand just right... :D:thumbup:

(He had to use with both hands with the 110 ...Like a Samurai sword) :p

Hey....be carefull! I resemble that remark. I like the 112 and it fits my hand like a glove. :p

Welcome Riley, This type topic comes along every so often and it fires up the guys, so just take it in stride. I use any can of oil pressurized spray and work the blade, you'll flush it out in seconds. The 112 to me was a better designed handle than the 110, safer but never sold as well. Yet, if you just use it thinkingly, developing woodsmanship, it will provide you w/ enough knife for most any task. So, just use it and enjoy, you'll learn along the way. DM

I know I'm in the minority here but I actually like the 112 better than the 110.
It just feels right, and is plenty big enough for any task you would use a folder for...

We tend to kid and carry on here about the 112. Take it all in jest. The 112 is a fine knife and I have a bunch of them.

I just like the longer edge of the 110 when in the field when dealing with bambi's grandpa.

But then, I have used a shorter 112 when going inside a deer chest cavity as it reduces the chance of cutting into an unwanted area.
And no! Not using one of the S30V droppers. :p:D

:cool:Yes, I have sinned and strayed into the world of the 112, I hope my friends and family will forgive me and offer their support as I try :foot:to fight my way back to the 300 way.

412Bucks, I mean 300$s.

Dave i truly agree with you on the 112!
the was designed for navy personal and navy blade length carry rules..
it is a safer designed knife with that hook in front!
i truly wish the 110 had it..
yes by little brother did get a 112 first and has no 110's at all!
he has like 20 now...
it is really a good knife and worthy of more attention then it gets..
i dont collect it because my brother collects it ... does that make sence ?
no i dont call it a girls knife any more...
but girls i know do like it better then the 110 !

334dave, Thanks. I enjoyed talking w/ you and Habbie at the reunion and your displays were outstanding. Very unique! I started my kids out on a 112 and don't regret it. I carry a 110 but thats just me. DM

yea me too...
thanks glad you liked my displays!
i could only bring two of the 4 i have...
the title was to be folding hunter and alterations..
but it looked more like
"Flashy 110's that i like"!
man i gota work on that!
Haebbie really enjoyed metting every one!!
he said "Dave, i had no idea what to expect here in America. What i found here is nothing like {as in far beyond} what i could have imagined. It has been the adventure of a life time!"
and it was all you buck nuts out there that made it possible !
hee hee you should have heard what he said at Cabala's on seeing the long counter with all the fire arms in it and rifles on the walls!!
"only some one crazy would want to invade America! every ware it is like to supply a army with guns!" and again at wally with their rifles in the racks..
he did not comment on it but i noticed he seemed to look at the gun conters and then the knife counters and back as if like -
ok- knives are more carried here but not as big a display of them as guns? ..

You have another case here. :) The 112 was a honeymoon present to myself, and never left my belt for about a year.

It's a tank of a folder. Sharpen it thin, oil the pivot lightly, and it will take anything you hand it.
