Just received a new Spyderco Calypso Jr. from NGK. (I have nothing but good things to say about NGK - they are great to deal with
).
What an excellent little knife this is! The attention to detail is excellent. I think it may become my EDC. (Have been carrying the Native for the past couple of weeks). Why did Spyderco ever stop making this knife?
Some of the things I like about any knife (excluding steel and cutting ability) is the way the knife is put together. I mean I generally don't like to see (aesthetically speaking) nobbles, raised edges, gaps, etc. I like the lines of the knife (both open and closed) to "flow". And I have to say that this little Calypso does just that. The Native does the same thing and I really like that knife as well (had one for a while now as I mentioned earlier) ... but (to me) it's more "stout" and not as 'refined' ... if you like ... as the Calypso. I have the Delica also, which is slightly thinner, but I still feel that the Calypso is one fabulous knife. It looks good, it feels great in your hand and it cuts like a devil. What else could you possible want? (Besides "size" that is)
Well done to the guys at Spyderco for reintroducing the Calypso Jr. Perhaps Sal will introduce a G10 or CF model sometime in the future if sales are high enough. Until then I'm more than pleased with the value that the Calypso Jr. offers, both in terms of price and quality. Stunning knife!!
