The brown truck gods just brought a package to me today . . . a Calypso Jr. (Zytel)!! This is my third Spyderco; my other two are the older Zytel Delica and Endura. Here's my thoughts & questions:

Likes:
- great steel (VG-10)and flat grind.
- very elegant lines.
- no blade play, very solid, clever depression on lock.
- funky bi-directional fish scale pattern is nice.
- SCARY sharp! Best edge I have felt on an out-of-the-box production knife!

Minor dislikes/not sure yet:
- the hole. Is smaller than my old Delica, and does not "feel" quite as easy to engage.
- NO BI-DIRECTIONAL CARRY! AAARRRGGGHHH!
- the finger choil/ridge . . . feels funny. Again, I'm used to the Delica, and want to put my finger right where the ridge is. How does everyone hold theirs? Is your forefinger in front of the ridge, or behind it?

Still, this is my favorite so far.
Lovin' it! Way to go, Sal & crew!

Welcome to the club!

If you're a real Calypso fan, you'll soon end up with a stainless handled version, then a large, then you'll be tracking down some of the black micarta versions. LOL, it never ends!

I got a Calypso Jr. a couple of weeks ago and love it also. It is not my everyday carry but it easily could be, right now it is to nice to use. I have to agree it is the sharpest production knife out of the box I have ever had.

Have any of you Calypso Jr. owners felt that the blade needed a little extra belly at times? That's about the only thing stopping me from getting this knife.

I just received a Calypso Jr. Lightweight a couple days ago. Boy was I impressed. I was expecting a great knife, but this knife exceeded my expectations. First of all I love this flat grind. Nice and thin. It also came very sharp out of the box. I love the clip and the fish scales. The only thing I don't like is the recess on the lock release. It makes it very difficult for me to close one handed (I depress it with my middle finger.). I guess I am still used to my delica.

SUMMERLAND,
Welcome to CalypsoJr. family ! Enjoy it.
No bidirection carry is disadvantage, but no big one

I agree with ET, that CalypsoJr. blade needs more belly at edge. Look at topic "What about Military small (medium) version?".

Welcome fellow Calpyso Jr LTWT nut!

The PLAIN LTWT is my favorite production carry knife.

The tip DOWN is the only way to carry a folder.....LOL. To each their own, I say. The ambidexterous carry option is KEY, it makes both LEFTIES, and righties happy! The VG-10 is a nice feature as well.

JQ - I find the notch a PLUS, I view it was a safety measure during a FIRM grip. I was thinking of grinding a notch on to my other Calpyso. The other reason for the notch could be to lessen weight of the already VERY LTWT knife. What say you, Sal??

Ray,

That's very true. And it does work. But it is hard for me to close one handed reliably. It's ok, I'm not keeping this knife anyway, it's a gift to my friend.

A darn nice one i might add!!

Ray - The notch is a David Boye concept that we adopted. It makes it a little more dificult to accidently unlock the knife.

I have both the Calypso and the Calypso Jr. with the black micarta scales. I really like them because they are light, sharp, and classy.
