So I got a few Amazon gift cards for my b-day back on the 22nd and decided I'd finally snag a few basic tools I had been meaning to get to, among them the Lenox Tri-fold Folding Jab/Utility Saw. It showed up in the mail today.

The beauty of this little number is that the rubber-overmolded all aluminum handle can accept any standard reciprocating saw blades or hacksaw blades (via a slot/set screw in the base of the handle) and, providing that the recip. blade is 6" or less in length, it can fold into the handle like a folding knife. It also can lock at an angle similar to that on a buck saw for when you need a little extra "oomph" in your pull.

What I like about this concept is that reciprocating saw blades come in all shapes and sizes for use on materials ranging from ceramic tiles and cast iron to green softwood, and it's super easy to bundle up a few different blades and toss them in your pack. Suddenly the folding pack saw isn't just for wood anymore! I'm sure you can imagine how useful this little thing could be in an urban or rural survival situation both. As many of us have stated that the first thing they'd do if they were in an urban area when the excrement hits the rotating cooling device would be to get to the woods as fast as they can, this saw would be useful in both environments.

I already used it for sawing through some canvas micarta for a project I'm working on and it went through nice and easy with the included multi-purpose bi-metal blade. I'll post more thoughts on it after I put it through its paces, but for now it's looking like a heck of a tool for the shop or your pack!

P.S. Every retailer out there shows pictures of the old version of this saw, including the seller I purchased this from. I had to go to the Lenox website to get an up-to-date image.

Nice tool but not a W&SS discussion.

I figured it was appropriate for W&SS given the tool's application to cutting things in a wide variety of environments and therefore its handiness factor with regards to an urban survival/bug-out-bag kit. I did include information relevant to its potential application in a survival setting. However I'm perfectly happy with wherever you decide to plop me. :D:thumbup:

We need to tell everybody about good gear, not just the woods elves. :D
I have a somewhat similar saw, but I like this one you posted a lot.

I'm seriously impressed with it. The build quality is excellent and I like being able to have multiple options for what I cut with it. I'd really like to see a knife company come out with a pocket-sized/shaped version of something like this maybe using saber saw blades. I know Leatherman and Gerber have a tool on some of their multitools that take those blades, but it'd be cool to have something standalone with a pocket clip.

Ive got a really old plastic handle saw that accepts blades, but I might have to pick this one up too. Looks a little bit more reliable than my current saw

Stanley makes a plastic-handled one that's of dubious durability. I can find those ones everywhere, but Lenox seems to be the only company making one that's simultaineously tough AND folds.
