I'm not going to try to give another elaborate review on this knife since:
1) I'm not very good at giving a review.
2) I don't like being redundant. I don't like being redundant.

A few things I'd add to what's already been said about this knife. Yes, it is big. When I first saw it in a store, my first impression was like most people- I thought it was huge. But since EDCing a Pacific Salt and keeping an expectation of it seeming "huge" and not handling a Manix for months, it doesn't appear now as large as I once percieved it was. I've read a lot about people saying that it's too large for them to EDC. I've carried it for a couple days now and I really don't notice it in my pocket. And though I can't say that it's the same people, I've seen a lot of EDC pictures that have 3-5+ blades (among other things) and I can't figure out how the hell they keep all that stuff on them.

So to keep this short:
-It's not too big for me to EDC, except when I'm working out.
-I really like the egros.
-My first G-10 handled knife- very cool.
-I can cut through time with it. Spyderco's factory edge has not been exaggerated (by others, I think I did just exaggerate a little).
-We'll see if it chips in time. I have one S30V blade and have had no problems.
-Lock up seems solid, I won't be doing any spine whacks for the fear of damaging a perfectly good lock.
-Sticks out of the pocket a little more than I prefer, but it really doesn't matter. My work brings me constantly into banks and no one has noticed it yet, however I do make sure that my shirt is covering the exposed part of the handle.

Good review ;)

Glad you don't think it's too large to carry. It helped pull my pants down with all the other crap that I have to carry! The Mini was only marginally better in that regard but still a little too heavy so I settled on the Para. I did like the handle, my rather small hands could get into a number of comfortable grips quite easily.

ignoramus,

Don't be concerned about spine whacking to test for security of the lock. This is an overbuilt lockback and handles a spine whack with a laugh and a hearty "Is that ALL you've got?!!". Really, test it if you have any doubt or concern about lock integrity. I did with mine and it didn't faze this folder one little bit.

Have fun and enjoy!

BTW, don't forget to spine whack safely.:)

I just recently put my Manix to work and found out that there's vertical blade play. I emailed Spyderco and am currently waiting on their response. I love the Manix though.

Also, it did chip- my friend was doing some "light prying" when I wasn't looking. Nothing serious, but very annoying for awhile.

Friends who do "light prying" with your knife without asking you first (to find out if you feel your knife is up to the task) need to be recipients of targeted spine wack tests between the eyes. My friends who borrow my knives get a short speech on do and don'ts whether they like it or not before they touch my blades.

Oh, and yes, Congrats....the Manix is an excellent knife in nearly all respects.

I've been trying to convince him to train in MMA with me. When he comes around, I'll get in some vengeance shots.

My philosophy is don't loan your knife or wife. Works for me.:D If someone chipped my Manix I would be POed beyond endurance. Congrats on the Manix.

Congrats on the Manix! I'm thinking about getting one. I can't decide between the Manix and the Chinook. Both are large with great locking mechanisms. I am leaning towards the Manix.

RJJ,

My understanding is that the Chinook is designed with SD in mind. And IMHO, the Manix is by no means a hindrance for that purpose. I find it overall more comfortable for utility purposes and no better or worse than the Chinook for SD purposes.

The Chinook's upswept blade looks like it would also be a great skinner. I'm wondering if anyone here has already put it to that use since we are well into the '06 deer season.

...that's funny !

Congrats on your new knife.....the "brothers" Manix have an excellent reputation.
