I have been looking for a smaller sized EDC knife to carry at my new job. I wanted something nice and had a few knives I was eyeing. What I was really after was a Southern Grind Spider Monkey. Gorgeous knife and the perfect size. However when I got to hold one I was so put off buy the lack of quality control I continued my search.

I wont get into a long back story but I have owned a number of Benchmades. I was looking a selection of Benchmade knives at my local shop and when I saw the Mini Barrage I was pretty impressed but I initially passed on it because I am not a huge fan of assisted opening knives. But I started reading up on it and saw the 585-2 was an upgraded version and the opnions and review are very favorable with the Mini Barrage being an awesome little, yet stout knife. I decided to pull the trigger and I went back and got it. And I am happy I did.

I am just super impressed with this knife. I love the gray G-10 scales and the overall design and function. I think this will be a great EDC knife. The assisted opening is fantastic and keep in mind I am not typically a fan of assisted opening. Zero blade play and locks up solid and the blade is perfectly centered. I love the assist on this knife and how smooth it is. It opens solid and closes solid. to me the closing of a knife is important especially being assisted because I have one assisted opening knife that opens way too easy. Not so on this one. I honestly didn't expect to like this knife as much as I did. Its solid yet not too heavy. I also have a new Cold Steel Finn Wolf that is kind of my little scandi beater and is just slightly lighter which rides in my bag.

But the Mini Barrage will be in my pocket daily. I wear linen pants at work and its not practical for me to carry one of my heavier blades so the Mini Barrage is fantastic. It is such a nice surprise to come across a knife like this. I honestly had no awareness of this model. I know Benchmade makes some good stuff because I have had it but I haven't had one in my rotation in quite a while. Excellent quality for the price. Will update after its gets some more use.

Just had to share.
